It summarises the inputs that contributed to this understanding - and follows the hierarchical approach to financial management. The way it is today...
It tries to provide reason why the contribution of the financial manager plays such an important role in business management - and that view needs to be supported.
I find the English language usage a bit cumbersome - perhaps the writing style of the authors is too formal/academic.
I bought the book to be input to the work we are currently involved in - the design of a modern finance function - but from a process centric angle. Converting to a process-centric design of the finance function will pave the way for the much-expected automation and 4IR impact. A hierarchical design does not easily allow for automation since the inherent principle of hierarchical design is to protect those within the structure.
We believe that a process centric design will improve productivity (higher quality at lower cost) by more than 30%.
We are working towards a pilot and will need to prove this improvement statement through the pilot.

I was reading it from a consultants perspective, but working in the world of finance and accounting it had lots of valuable insights. I particularly liked the way it was laid out in three parts, The Goal, the Means and the Path, as it made a logical sequence of steps to follow, and also a clue where to dip into the book if you need to work on one part of your journey.
Going right through the value chain in section three of the book, the authors present an inspiration catalogue for optimizing all the different parts of the chain. I think this will be hugely helpful when working with different businesses and figuring out what needs attention and in what order.
This book is not cheap, but it is not expensive either, when I consider the value I can draw from it, and how I can apply that in my business.
This book will sit within handy reach whilst I review and digest all it has to offer.
