Luke 10:23-24 "And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see: For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them."
I read this book shortly after buying it, and I must say that I have had to reshelf it for a later time. Even with the glossary and other books that I have I did not feel that I had enough of a foundation to get as much out of this book as there is in it. I started this review with a quote from the Bible (KJV) as Dr Hubbard starts with the quote in this book, this chapter of Luke is one of my personal favorites and contains a great philosophy for life - even if you get nothing more from this book than the understanding that peace is the way, that we should be trying to heal the sick and raise the spirits of our brethren rather than as the world focuses on tearing down and fault finding.
The layout of this book is easy to follow and the subject matter is very enlightening, I just wish that I had of had more of a foundation in the basic information of Dianetics and Scientology than I did when I started this book - I will most likely re-read it after I have read (or re-read) the other books that I have on this subject.
The one thing I would like others to get from this book is that Scientology can find its roots in all the other religions of the world, Christianity, Buddhism, Taoism, Judaism, Islam, etc... That it appears that Dr Hubbard really did not want to change people's religious beliefs as much as give them the tools to be the best (insert religious denomination here) that they can be. I have come to the understanding that the philosophy and principles of both Dianetics and Scientology are Universal in their application and that unlike some other things they just work - regardless of your belief system. I do not need to believe in shovels to help them dig holes... they just work, no matter who picks them up (of course with the caveat that the person picking up the shovel must actually use it, not just carry it around - but this is true of most things), they can demonstratively dig holes... and the Science behind the philosophy of Scientology just works.
Become a Scientologist or do not, the choice is yours. Regardless of the choice you make this information can change your life. My recommendation though is read Dianetics and A New Slant on Life first, then move onto some of the more advanced ones like Dianetics 55 and Fundamentals of Thought... then maybe this book will make more sense. As for me I am about half way back to wanting to re-read this manual.
Blessings and Light.
