This is a wonderful, useful book read in the most prententious, condescending tone. I had read the paper book but since I do a lot of driving thought that I'd try the Audible version to remind me of her ideas. About half way though I checked on Youtube to find out if I was that off in "hearing" Twyla Tharp's tone in my head when I had the paper copy. Not at all- she is funny, direct, practical and down to earth with something of a New York accent, I think. Whoever chose this narrator for this book must have been thinking prima ballerina with an attitide. So wrong. So hard to listen to!

So sad. I returned it.

Hated this book. While it does have some valuable insights, I feel that the book could have been condensed to a single article. She makes very broad generalizations about creative fields that she has no expertise in. She refers to architecture several times in very inaccurate assumptions.

Basically the book is "learn a creative habit and use it". There's no real extra insight, it's just a convoluted redundancy of that simple epiphany.

I agree with one of the commentaries...her creative style may not be your style....this may explain why I don't care for this book. The author states this isn't about dance and how she won't use those terms but then I read about her and HER ways to get her creative dance juices flowing...over and over again. So I skipped to some of her "creative exercises....maybe if I liked to play games this would have worked for me but it just felt like I was wasting my time when I could have gone for a walk and gotten more inspired.

As an aspiring artist, I enjoy reading literature on all types of creativity. This book came very highly recommended, yet I couldn't make it through the first 50 pages. The author does have some decent points on habits, but her surprisingly closed mind and self-described black-and-white view of the world made it difficult to connect with the material.

I wished I returned it. I guess it was the author's ego trip.

I feel like everything in this book is common knowledge. There is no need for it to take up 200+ pages and cost anything. Very difficult book to get through. I never felt like I just had to turn the page and keep reading, and this is coming from someone who is always reading. I am an art educator and an artist, and someone who creates everyday. I had to read this book for a graduate class. I would not have picked it up otherwise.

I was expecting this book to be more of a step-by-step guide on "how to develop & implement beneficial creative habits” and this book totally misses the mark. This book in my opinion, reads more like a memoir of Ms. Tharp's career accomplishments rather than how she was able to succeed. I would not recommend this book to anyone who is looking for more of a how-to guide for creating positive creative habits for life.
