I HATE, HATE, HATE it when Amazon can't give proper dimensions on anything. It seems that ALL electronics have incorrect dimensions.
This item's description says:
9.1 x 3 x 6.1 inches
Item Dimensions L x W x H
9.06 x 2.95 x 6.1 inches
And that doesn't even make sense. What's the difference between the "product" and the "item"?
The "item", and also the "product", is 1.25 inches tall, and the base is 6" by 2.75".
I wanted to know the dimensions so I would know if it would fit neatly inthe space I have next to my mini-ITX computer.
The outer box is 6 x 9 x 3, but who cares about that? If the item description is going to show two sets of dimensions, PLEASE have one of them be the dimensions of the product, or the item, or whatever you want to call it. Not the dimensions of the box.
I'm glad it's smaller than what was advertised. When I test it, I might update the review. I hope this helps someone!
This card simply put is just crap when i comes to DDL. After much back and forth with creative support over about 5 days (Case ID :160059453) the end result is the helpful message:
Regarding your request, kindly note that we test this behavior on our hand and we have been able to replicate the same issue on Windows 10 but when using Windows 7 everything is working fine.
We are going to feedback this issue.
We thank you for your kind understanding and cooperation.
So, yea, it don't work very well on windows 10, and they may or may not ever fix it who knows.
What is the issue? Well in short the card will stop outputting a Dolby signal after about one half to one second of silence, this has the effect of making the downstream device (speakers) switch from DD back to PCM, when the card picks up again the downstream has to switch back. Every time that switch occurs you loose a fraction of a second of the sound. Not horrible per say when movie watching, but when you say play a game where the sound effects are a fraction of a second normally, with silence around them, what you end up with is just a bunch of half sounds and an outright horrible experience.
The mic works well. No complaints. but lets be honest. Most of you have mics that are much better already. Mic software is so so. but no one is really going to be using the voice changing software on this unit.
The software and or firmware/drivers for this thing suck big time. There are three bugs I have had since owning it.
1. Sound card will randomly default to full Volume. No amount of driver/firmware/software re installation will fix this. You have to reboot.
2.Mic Input just stops working completely. Resolves itself again only with a reboot.
3. Software just straight up doesn't recognize the device and none of the controls come up.
Multiple people have had these issues. Just stay away.
You can easily spend 40-50$ if all you are looking for is a decent external card.
If you really want the gaming software go spend $100 for something more reliable.
The amount of time wasted rebooting my computer is disgusting. And so is this product. If they fixed these issues I would say this would be a slightly overpriced mid ranged card. But the louder footsteps in games like PUBG etc is pretty nice.
If youre a competitive gamer or want to go competitive. This is a great buy. Very reasonable price!

Both of these soundcards came with the newest firmware "SBOM_PCFW_EN_160916" which is broken. And what is broken about it is whenever I would awake my PC from sleep, my sound would be locked at 100% volume and i couldn't change it at all.
The fix to this was to install the older firmware "SBOM_PCFW_EN_131025". This made the card's volume work even after awaking PC from sleepmode.
Thats the only bug i noticed with the card, its all good on other fronts.
I'm running analog 5.1 outputs so this is why USB was needed to avoid interference from my PC components (mainly video card which caused it). The USB cord they give you is extremely short and you will want to likely buy another 10 feet extension cable to get as far away as your PC as possible if you are using analog outputs to avoid interference from your PC.
The software works and offers everything I wanted. Lets me use "record what you hear" device, which is one main thing i wanted to have. Also it works with Creative Alchemy so you can run all your older games that used EAX effects which is really nice and something that is more difficult and hit and miss to do on non creative cards. I've played several older games with EAX so far, and work nicely.
The sound device is a bit sensitive to electromagnetic power surges. I have mine sometimes would disconnect briefly whenever this powerful venting fan was turned on/off in a room nearby. The solution to this was to put the USB soundcard in a fairly thick metal case which protects it from this from happening. It was an easy thing to diagnose because whenever this fan is turned on you can even heard speakers crackle with the damn thing being used.
So overall, good card. Wish Creative would release a newer firmware that fixes this sound 100% volume bug. But just use the older firmware and it will fix that problem if you experience it. Creative has pretty sparse updates and I wouldn't expect it anytime soon but we can hope.
Both the Omni (USB) and Z (PCIE) claim to have Amp for 600Ohm headphone, so I thought the Omni can't be noticeably worse than Z for the same headphone. I was wrong.
I connected my long USB 3.0 cable from PC to a powered Aukey hub, and then connected Omni to the hub.
It was noticeably worse than Z.
With Omni, the sound output over headphone doesn't get any stronger between 50% and 100% volumn setting (Windows OS).
5.1 analog output also sounds weak, even though the speakers themselves are powered.
Software wise, the control panel for Omni has fewer options than Z. For example, with Omni, there is no Acoustic Echo Cancellation for the mic.
In addition, the Omni does not fully support ASIO. It does have some sort of simulated ASIO in only one direction (I can't remember it's input or output only). Delay is quite obvious with midi device recording.
I eventually returned the Omni and bought a bunch of high quality 3.5mm cables. Those cables are expensive, but there is no significant power loss. The sound quality is acceptable at 15ft with Sound Blaster Z (PCIE).
Maybe the weak sound is caused by a faulty powered hub. I can't tell.
But feature wise, Omni is still worse than Z, justifying the price difference.
If you do have the option to go with PCIE, dont' use USB.
Plug and play en Mac y Windows (probado)
Hecho enteramente de plástico y transmite una sensación de barato y poco duradero
La luz roja esta prendida todo el tiempo
Un poco caro para el precio
I am using it two ways:
1- Plugged on my PC via USB and using it with the Sound Blaster software to enhance games, vids and music.
2- Plugged in with Optical for my turntable directly in my sound system.
Way better than any old-school onboard soudcards and ZERO static and distortion.
External stereo mic also included and built-in although im not using it for that feature.
Volume control and headset or hear-phones front input. Optical out in the back.
