Creative Sound Blaster Roar
Compact Portable Bluetooth Wireless Speaker with NFC
Never before has such powerful and well-balanced audio come from a small compact booklet-sized speaker. With the Sound Blaster Roar, we've achieved the impossible by taking an impressive bi-amplified 5-driver system and shrinking it into a size no larger than a dictionary. The result: a speaker that is smaller, lighter, more stable, and more powerful than any other speaker of its class. You'll have to hear it to believe it.
With its unbeatable factory-direct price, the Sound Blaster Roar easily outperforms speakers twice its price.
Bi-Amplified Design: Two Amps, Not One
Most portable speakers utilize a single amplifier to reproduce the entire audio spectrum. With a single amplifier design, much demand goes into reproducing the lows and mids, which compromises the delivery of the highs. On the other hand, the Sound Blaster Roar utilizes two amplifiers – one dedicated to driving lows and mids, while another which is solely dedicated to deliver the high frequencies. This allows the speaker to produce uncompromisingly clear, high definition, and well-balanced music. The top-firing bass and mid-level driver is also laid horizontally, reducing the speaker’s center of gravity, thus stabilizing it.
Tap & Play
All it takes is a tap, to pair your NFC-enabled device wirelessly with the Sound Blaster Roar. If your phone is not NFC-enabled, you can always connect via Bluetooth the good old-fashioned way.
External Sound Blaster by USB Audio
Users can connect their devices to their PCs or Macs via USB to enjoy clear digital audio. Connecting the speaker via USB enables advanced PC audio processing through the downloadable software - the Sound Blaster Control Panel and full access to the SBX Pro Studio suite of technology.
Integrated MP3/WMA/WAV Player
Simply insert a microSD card storing your favorite songs and push the Play button to enjoy. It makes a great option if you do not wish to commit your mobile phone to music playback.
Integrated Audio and Voice Recorder
The Sound Blaster Roar's voice or audio recorder allows recording of audio directly into a microSD card. You can even record voice calls!
Your Mobile Companion
Take the Roar with You
Sound Blaster Roar's built-in 6000mAh battery makes it highly portable, giving you the flexibility to place it anywhere or to bring it along with you.
Play your music non-stop for up to eight hours. When it runs out of juice, simply charge it with the proprietary power adapter or the micro USB cable.
Charge Your Smartphone
With its high-capacity built-in 6000mAh Li-ion battery, Sound Blaster Roar acts as a charger for your smartphone, whenever you need backup power.
Convenient Hands-free Calls
Holding on to your phone throughout a lengthy call can be tiresome. Conduct hands-free conversations with Sound Blaster Roar by simply speaking through its built-in microphone.

Pros: Great mids and highs, the bass is good enough to get your heading bobbing but for those looking for Beats type of Bass you will need to look elsewhere. I still think the bass is best on the roar compared to the other 3 though. Especially with the "Terabass" feature and the " Roar" feature. Amazing features, of which half you will never use. Cheapest option. Best overall in my opinion except....
Cons: This was a deal breaker for me. When you connect via bluetooth there is a very noticeable white noise ( static noise ) when no audio is being played. At very low volumes it most apparent. When I listen to podcasts I constantly hear the noise. Apparently it is a common issue with these, creative has a thread online. I know there can me white noise from any speaker but this one was very annoying because it was so prominent. That being said at mid-high volumes you will not be able to notice a thing. I ordered two just to make sure I did not get a lemon, however it was just as bad. I also tested it outside away from all my indoor electronics to see if anything was interfering, however to no dice.
Pros: Best overall sound in terms of clarity for all ranges. Best portability in my opinion.
Cons: Bass is somewhat lacking. No features at ALL. No micro USB charging. Does not get loud, the other 3 blow it out of the water especially the UE Boom. The Bose Color is louder. I also bought that one too.
Pros: Gets loud....really really loud. If you are just looking for something for OUTSIDE use when having a party. Get the UE Boom. The other 3 do not come close. Waterproof. 100 ft bluetooth range. Battery life is 15 hours. (the others range from 7-8 hours). You can pair it with another UE boom to get true Stereo. ( That will also cost you twice as much)
Cons: No Bass at all, I am not a bass head but this was weak sauce, seriously really bad. If you listen to EDM, Hip Hop etc this will not do it for you. For classic rock, jazz, pop no problem at all. There is no removable battery, apparently if it goes out you have to buy a whole new speaker.
Pros: Good highs, mids and lows, pretty good bass comparable with the Creative Roar. Lots of features similar to the Roar.
Cons: This is the biggest problem I could possibly have with a speaker. It does not sound nearly as good compared to when it is plugged into an AC adapter. It even states this in its buyer guide. The whole point of buying a bluetooth speaker is for the portability. What is the point of paying for the freedom to move without wires if I have to leave it plugged in to get great sound. That being said, when it is plugged in, it is amazing.
So you decide what works for you....Hope that Helps.
I purchased the New Creative Sound Blaster Roar about 1 month ago on the basis of outstanding reviews. It was returned because the Bluetooth dropped - even at close range. But apart from my experience (which I consider an individual unit flaw) I want to address the larger issue of the unit's sound quality in view of the effusive reviews.
The audio quality was OK - not great. My sister has an older first generation Bose Soundlink - which is better than the Roar (and to be fair twice as expensive). Admittedly, it is in different price range; I mention it because there have been many wild comparisons to other products Bose Soundlink (not just the mini), Bose wave radio, $30,000 stereo systems, etc, .... The Roar's audio quality was dependent on location - moving slightly off-axis changed the sound. Was the Roar's sound quality terrible - no. Was it good yes - I'd say even quite good. Was it "audiophile quality" no..... not even close.
But there are so many breathless reviews throwing around terms like "best bluetooth speaker ever" "masterpiece" "audiophile." I would urge caution on buying on the basis of these reviews.
Many of the glowing reviews have coincided with the reviewer obtaining a free Sound Blaster Roar - and while many reviewers candidly acknowledge that fact, I think many more have not. When I received my Roar, I believe there were 100 or so reviews - now about 1 month later - there are 511. One reviewer commented: "Creative has a promotion going on now. Write a review for the sound blaster roar on amazon and get a free carry bag for the roar." I don't know if that is true or not, but based on the wild claims and zealous tone of some of the reviews, I would not be surprised.
An example of a typical review that I would characterize as "breathless"
"Holy Moly! This thing is AWESOME! My buddies have a BOSE in which is bluetooth also, but I gotta say the price versus what you get with Bose is not as good as this deal! I AM IMMEDIATELY BUYING A BACKUP UNIT!!! This thing BOOMS... Talk radio sounds so natural and clear, the connection is a snap, speakerphone works and sounds good.... er, uh.... argh... confusion, excitement, gosh I wanna just keep on writing about this awesome boom box but Brooklyn 99 is on.... So just buy this product already"
"If you are reading reviews on the ROAR your wasting (ROAR) time. you will not find a better product. I even ordered a second one. This is a show stopper. Everyone will want one. At least 5 of my friends ordered one after hearing the pure sound quality. Not much else [sic] to say this unit speaks for itself. THIS IS A MUST HAVE BEST PURCHASE OF 2014 and I buy a lot"
". . .all my friends love it 4 of them ordered one."
"The sound quality - The sound reproduction is exactly as it is on the recording - no coloring or processing involved. It just lays bare the song as it is on the recording. Which is exactly what my $30k sound system also does."
In sum, I value genuine customer feedback on Amazon.
I use to value Yelp - but Yelp has gone the way of pay-to-play - and good actual unfiltered unbiased customer reviews are getting harder to find.
I don't want Amazon reviews to go the way of Yelp.
So, in sum, apart from my bluetooth problem, the Soundblaster is a good unit with decent sound - not a fantastic unit with exceptional sound. If you are motivated to get a good speaker for a reasonable $150 - I would say it is a good deal and you will be happy. If you are motivated to get a fantastic audiophile quality speaker that is the best of its kind (i.e. a great deal) on the basis of these reviews, you may find yourself disappointed and deceived by what are "compensated endorsers."
My criticism is directed at the strategy to overhype what is otherwise a fairly good product.
Above all, I hope Amazon's reviews stay genuine, authentic, and unbiased.
