I must first start out saying that this is one of the few movies that has actually brought me to tears.
Boris and Barbara's relationship struck me as the most sincere and heart wrenching love affair that I have ever witnessed. Peter O'Toole is captivating as the eccentric scientist and David Ogden-Stiers has perpetuated his typecasting with his role as the arrogant intellectual.
This is the first major movie role for Ms Hemmingway and she shows flashes of the talent that made her so famous on TV a few years later.
This is a love story with a cast of suporting characters that make it shine. It also asks some very serious questions about the medical establishment and how terminally ill patients are treated. Your hopes will be raised and your heart be broken by this movie. It is well worth the cost.

This is one of the most obscure movies ever made by Peter O'Toole, undeservedly so. It's by turns whimsical, dramatic, romantic, and heartrending, with a cast that makes the most of a rather peculiar story. Nobody does the absent-minded professor bit better than O'Toole, David Odgen Steirs is sanctimonious and self-centered as usual, and Hemingway was an outstanding choice for the flaky Mellie. Even the theme (String Trio Rock, which has, sadly, never been released) will reverberate in your head for days afterward.

The biggest disappointments about this disc are the pan-and-scan presentation, which was poorly executed, and the lack of extras on the disc; no background, commentary, soundtrack information, discographies, or featurettes were included.

What is the big picture? Well, you have to see the movie to understand what I'm talking about. Personally, I think I get the big picture and that's why I love this movie so much.

Peter O'Toole is great in this. So are Vincent Spano, Virginia Madsen, Mariel Hemingway, and David Ogden Stiers.

What can I say about this story? It's sometimes hard for me to explain it to people who haven't seen it. When some people hear "a man tries to regrow his dead wife" they sort of cringe and think it's some sort of weird sci fi or horror movie.

It's neither - it's a love story. Actually, it's several love stories. You've got the love Harry has for his late wife, the love between him and Millie, the love between Boris and Barbara, and even the love (non-romantic) between Boris and Harry.

Still, Creator is far from a typical "love story." It's very unique. I've never seen another movie quite like it.

It's got a great cast and great story with a nice mix of humor, drama, and romance. If you haven't seen it, you should give it a try.

If you're the sort of person who gets "the big picture," you'll probably end up liking this movie a lot.

I love this movie, but I HATE, HATE, HATE this DVD. It is the worst transfer I have ever seen on a DVD. It is full screen, but the pan and scan is terrible. You lose about 50 percent of the image from the VHS version. There are scenes where you can't even see the people talking in the scene because they are on the extreme right and left. You are left looking at a mostly empty room. Do yourself a favor and don't buy this DVD. If they ever release it on a widescreen, I'll buy it...but until then don't make the same mistake I did.

Peter O'Toole is one of my favorite actors & this is (I think) his best movie. In my mind, it is the greatest movie that nobody has ever heard of.
It is a tale about a doctor (O'Toole) who wants to clone his dead wife. However, the movie is about a lot more than that. He and his graduate assistant learn about love, friendship and the "big picture." It is kind of a cross between a drama and a comedy. Quite a deep movie that will make you laugh and leave you in tears as the final credits roll up the screen. Anyone who likes either Peter O'Toole or great intellectual movies (or both) will love this one. A fine flick!

Peter O'Toole for me can do no wrong. (I should say at this point that I am an expatriate Brit.) I have seen the movie conservatively about 16 times. Mariel is superb, Vincent and Virginia are marvellous and O'Toole is magnificent. Even David Ogden Stiers' performance is richly drawn. The story is essentially about love - both letting go and fiercely hanging on. The lines from the movie that remain indelibly etched in my mind are "Nothing in this world of any importance is ever accomplished without passion" and "Tell Sid, 'The Big Picture.'" Do yourself a favor, own this movie and watch it with your significant other.

I loved this film--O'Toole plays a brilliant but strange professor trying to recover his past. Although I wish they had left the coarse language out and changed some of the cast, I still consider this one of the true film classics.

What can I say about a film so special that it's now part of my very being. Each of the characters have become so vivid they are like old friends. Without spoiling a moment of this beautiful and poignant story, I will simply say...buy this movie and laugh, cry and learn for a lifetime.

Who would have thought that a film primarily set at a university bio lab would be so warm and funny? Between the chromosomes and cells that Dr. Harry Wolper (Peter O' Toole) studies through his microscope lies a heart a mile wide. The big picture as it turns out is knowing when to let go and when to cling to life. O'Toole in his fifties at the time this project was made expertly exudes sly charm and charisma as the obsessed geneticist. He's abetted by a terrific young cast who shine under the tutelage of the seasoned O'Toole. I would be remiss not to mention that Vincent Spano and Virginia Madsen share one of the more tender and sexy shower scenes in screen history. This is probably one of the most romantic films you are likely to see celebrating life and love to the fullest.

This is, by all accounts, one of those gems that was grossly overlooked by audiences the world over, including (and most tragically) the Academy of Motion Picture Arts. This movie was one of the first that would not leave my memory days after the initial viewing. Nearly twenty years and hundreds of viewings later, it still has that same affect. The cast, the score, and most importantly the story, are all simply beyond expression. This movie features, without a doubt, the best performances from all of its cast, and a score that deserves to be released many times over in every format known to man. Most disappointing to me is the lack of features available on the DVD version! That aside, few movies these days have the heart and passion that Creator delivers, and most of all, the courage to portray a genius who believes in God! Buy it in whatever format works for you, because ultimately it is not the format or packaging that makes this movie so special. I guarantee Creator will make you laugh, cry, shout, and believe.
