This legendary product has been around for years and years and has now become a sought-after collector's item. It is considerably heavy and large, perfect for a work tool, which this knife is designed to be. The large blade is forged from special steel, with a smooth edge on one side and partly serrated on the other. This side of the blade has a line cutter at the handle end. The anatomical, non-slip handle is made from soft grip material for a comfortable grip and comes with anatomical moulding for the fingers to fit into. On the back, it ends with a chrome-plated knob that can also be used as a mallet. The front of the handle ends with a stainless steel hilt to protect the fingers. The sheath is made from plastic and has a traditional elastic band to hold on the knife. It also has loops to attach the knife to your leg or onto your belt and comes with two leg straps. * Total length: 300 mm * Blade length: 178 mm * Blade width: 32 mm * Blade thickness: 5.5 mm * Weight, knife only: 450 g * Weight with sheath and straps: 600 g * Water buoyancy: negative
Top Customer Reviews
As a practice I dry the knife throughly after each dive and occasionally disassemble it and go over it with 00 steel wool and WD-40. Good, knife, good investment, some regular maintain which is common with most tools you get wet.
I would recommend this knife to a friend.
I replaced the leg straps with quick release straps (personal preference). Also replaced the rubber safety loop with bungie cord safety loop (more elastic and durable).
I read that few people have rust problems and after 30 dives I still don't see any rust. Though I soak the knife in fresh water after every dive and I lubed it with non toxic silicon.
Pros: Excellent weight and feel. Sharp right out of the box. Slips in and out of the sheath easily. It just looks and feels freaking awesome.
Cons: Straps are to short to fit my thigh. I'm 5' 10" 170 lbs. By no means excessively over weight. Also the buckle system. I would prefer Velcro. I have large hands and the grip is a little small but that is my problem not the knife's.
Over all an excellent value. As far as rust, I have not used it yet but like any tool I would assume it needs to be properly cared for. Rinse it, dry it and oil it and I believe all will be well. As the seller stated somewhere in here, you need carbon to hold an edge. A 308 or 316 SS knife may hold an edge long enough to slice a few tomatoes and that is about it. Ask a machinist about SS. it's like taffy. Soft and gummy. Not good for a knife or a bearing.
The Blade was very sharp and I like the features. Having a sharp blade, serated edge, fish hook, and a measuring set on it is great.
First I did not care for the handle. It was good except it has a prominent rubber seam. This seam can be easily seen and felt. I also had to tighten the blade and still rattling (From what?)
The Condition it arrived in was what really disappointed me. The case and handle were covered in dirt and stains. The blade itself was also dirty and there were scratches on the blade. It looked like this knife had been very used, and wasn't cleaned at all.
