Forewarning: I really, really enjoyed this book; much fangirl-ing and gushing ahead.

Also, characters have developed, therefore there might be light SPOILERS ahead for some. Go finish Whirl and Billow! Now, onward!

Crest was the perfect continuation of Emma Raveling's Ondine Quartet. Romance, action, and intrigue combine to create an amazing story that grabs you from beginning to end, and will make you want the last book even that much more (if you thought that was even possible).

Kendra is perhaps one of my favorite characters in anything I have ever read. She is headstrong and brave but also becoming increasingly aware of her flaws. Her development throughout the series is something to behold. With each experience, good and bad, she becomes stronger and more willing to take on all the responsibilities that were thrown at her in the last two installments of the quartet. And this development would not have been able to happen, and would not be the same, without Tristan.

Tristan is, befittingly, probably one of my favorite male characters in anything I have ever read (power couple!?). While his character and deeds are usually seen in a noble light from Kendra's point of view, Tristan constantly acts in a way that supports all of the trust and respect that Kendra feels towards him. Their relationship in this novel is fraught with many obstacles but works to strengthen their characters both as individuals and as a political, as well as *SPOILER* romantic, partnership.

The other characters are explored in Crest as well. Secondary characters became much more real and influential to me (and to Kendra), becoming friends and allies that are capable of having their own part in the large scale conflict that is being forced upon them by The Shadow.

Wow! This was a great installment. I loved series with a strong heroine that is not afraid to make hard choices and really out herself out there for what she believes. The romance was awesome, it was great to finally see which way that was going to go. I was concerned when they introduced someone from the past. I always dislike it when authors do that to create tension between romantic leads, especially when they create situations that give the illusion of something going on between them, BUT,thankfully the author did not go too deep that way. It was handled very well.
Dialogue was great, plots were interesting, and outcome was satisfying.
What I am really impressed is that the author really has excelled with her character development. They are older in this book, and they have all matured and grown accordingly, not only because of the passing of time, but also because war and conflict tends to make you grow faster, yet they all have remained true to who they really are. If you liked the characters in the first book, you will still like them in this one.
Anyway, read this, you will not be disappointed.
Can't wait for book 4. Particularly after the cliffhanger ending.

4 1/2 stars! It's so remarkable the different angles this book leads in this ondine journey. Kendra is much more positive..Tristan & Juilan are so adorable in their own ways. The gang's still all there & it's awesome the teamwork that goes on. Major cliffhanger will make you want to review several passages.

** ****Possible spoilers, if you haven't read the book stop*****4.5 out of 5. I hate it when you get stuck on a cliff-hanger, and this is a doozie. Not telling who the shadow is, that was a tough pill to swallow. I love this series, and I am going to be dying waiting until 2014 to find out, is it Julian, possibly could it be Jeeves, but that is just a few to suspect, so I will be wondering, because of the sweet iris? That dang sweet iris. He has always called her, is going to haunt me until, Breaker. Julian is the one that is in love with her, but that doesn't exactly fit with everything I am not sure....Ahhh I am going to be looking forward to seeing what the ending is. This is just a bunch of rambling and guesses, so do not take any of this to heart and take your own guess and read it!

These books just keep getting better and better!!
I am over flowing with pride for Kendra. She has grow so much, and become such a remarkable woman, warrior, and overall person. She has bested all sorts of odds thrown at her and persevered with flying colors. She humbles me with her dedication to, not only succeed with any and all goals she sets for herself, but also for the loyalty she has for those she protects and the people she'd die for.
I cannot wait to see just how much more she will continue to grow and wow us with her awesomeness.

This was my favorite book in this series so far! My only issue is I have to wait for the next one. I usually don't start a series until it is complete so the wait is going to drive me insane lol....can't wait! To those comparing it to Vampire Academy, there are still some/a lot of similarities, but it takes on a life of its own more so in this book than the others. I definitely recommend this series.

Crest is yet another amazing read in the Ondine Quartet and it just got real! Gone is the carefree, act now, think later Kendra and in her place is the more mature, duty bound Governor in training who is now well aware that each and every one of her decisions bears consequences & she must always look to the greater good for the Ondine people. You can really feel how much Kendra has matured as a person in this book, not only in a political sense or her Sondaleur duties but in affairs of the heart too and I feel that now, we begin to see her as someone who could be looked up to and we can definitely see the emerging leader in her. I loved what she went through in this because it gave even greater insight into the Kendra she keeps for herself, the one only Tristan seems able to see. It is particularly emotional when she goes through her magic test and we see how her life has been shaped, how her childhood was savaged by her mother in the attempt to mould her into the person she needs to be. I was with her through everything, totally immersed in her feelings & decisions. I loved the progression of the relationship between Kendra & Tristan, throughout this we get to see that they have very similar stories and are both as deep as each other. Something finally gives between them and it was lovely, it gives them both a piece of happiness in the harsh reality of what's happening around them and you can feel that they so need each other for support in any way possible, they complement each other in a great way.
The storyline had a lot going on as we go from New York to Haverleau to the Selkie Kingdom of Nome and I loved it all. The change of scenery was great and I love that we finally get to visit the Selkie Kingdom, it's description is great, the palace, the training grounds, the location...
