Fabulous grinder/Ceramic GEARS

It emitted perfectly cracked salt from the first crank, great purchase! But FYI it's important to note that the grinder body is made of plastic - - the ceramic description is in reference to the actual grinding gears. Ceramic burrs (the grinding 'teeth') are necessary to grind salt as the salt will corrode/oxidize metal burrs (that are in pepper mills) and cause rust and breakdown. The grinder body being plastic does not feel cheap to me, particularly because it grinds so well! It has nice weight, and believe it will last many years past my wood pepper shaker. Very happy!

Product Mixup and Sticker Glue

I ordered a salt mill and got a pepper mill (there's a "P" on the silver button on top of the grinder, not an "S"). The top piece was also covered in that dirty residue that is left behind by a sticker. I had to scrub and scrub to get it off. Also, the color is BRIGHT WHITE, not creamy like shown in the picture. I was fine with either color and I need both salt and pepper, so I kept it, but now I don't know what to order to get a salt mill - the salt or pepper version! So, the product works and is "mostly" as described, but it definitely should have been CLEAN, for SALT and packed better with some sort of receipt included. As a result, when I order the matching salt mill, I won't order from this seller.

Being from Le Creuset, I was expecting more than what these are. They look nice and function fine, but so do the cheaper ones from other places. I was expecting metal components inside, but they're all plastic, so they probably won't last very long. in my opinion, these are over priced and you're basically paying for the color of them. We have a lot of the Flame color Le Creuset kitchen stuff, so these do look nice with all the other stuff we have.

The quality of the grinders is fantastic. I must have owned about a dozen salt and pepper mills over the years, and there are streets ahead of anything else.

Incidentally, the salt and pepper grinders are identical apart from the S and P on the top. The grinders are the same.

Why only four stars if I love them so much? Well, the colour of the plastic bodies is /slightly/ different to the supposedly matching ceramic Le Creuset items (jugs, mugs, etc). It's similar, but not identical. And I'm such a fussy bugger that I think that warrants losing a star!

They look good but sadly the top of the pepper grinder came off after 4 months as the thread has gone. Very pleased with the grinders but spoilt by the poor construction, I wouldn't recommend! I still have a pepper grinder that I bought over 20 years ago and it still works but it wasn't made by Le Creuset so I shall go back to them for a new pot.

This salt mill looks great, however it's not working so well. When you grind the salt it's sticking to the bottom of the mill so you actually use double the amount of the salt when cooking purely because half of it sticks to the bottom of the mill. I bought the pepper mill with it too, and that one works fine.

Bought both pepper and salt mills less than one year ago. Minimum usage daily by two older people. The salt mill is not grinding properly and seems to be allowing salt to escape from neck of appliance. I have had to put salt mill in a ramekin dish to contain the wasted salt!!
I would like a replacement in the hope that this mill was a falty product.
