Product Description

Color:Cherry Red

This everyday pot never makes it to the cupboard: it goes from the stove or oven to the table to the dishwasher then back to the stove for tomorrow's dinner. If you want to keep leftovers in the refrigerator or freezer, you can store in a Le Creuset pot and not worry about food reacting to the porcelain enamel surface.

  • Material: Enameled cast iron
  • Cast-iron loop handles facilitate carrying from the oven or stovetop to the table
  • Heavy, tight-fitting lid with stainless-steel knob helps lock in heat, moisture, and flavor
  • Wash by hand; suitable for induction cooking; oven- and broiler-safe

I think the overwhelming reviews on here speak for themselves - le crueset makes the best cast iron cookware out there. I ended up with a set as wedding gifts from most of my family and have been happily cooking in an assortment of le crueset cookware ever since, so I was extremely disappointed when my dutch oven (my absolute FAVORITE pot... you can cook everything in this thing!) began "popping" while heating up one evening. When I looked, chunks of the enamel were popping off the bottom of the dish.... Mind you, this was 4 months after purchasing!

I went about trying to have the pot replaced by le crueset per their warrenty (clearly something is wrong with the dish - I have never experienced any issue like this before) and am currently at a standstill with the company. They are asking that I shell out a hefty price to ship the pot back to them. I suppose I could put this annoyance asside, but I have also been informed that once they get the dish they will deem the dish defective and replace it at no cost, or decide the dish was abused and require me to purchase a new dish at a reduced price.... No matter what I cannot get my dish back, ever! Even if they determine the dish is defective, they refuse to accept responsibility for the shipping to them and won't offer anything to offset the cost (I asked if they would at the very least offer me a coupon to put towards a future purchase). So - I have to spend about $40 (cast iron is heavy) to ship my dish to le crueset, and THEN another $100 to get a new dish if they won't replace it (and my feeling, based on the poor customer service and refulas to stand by their product, is they won't even though the dish is clearly defective). Not to mention, the replacement process takes 4-6 weeks once le crueset receivs the dish.....

This is my go-to pot for soup or stew. It lets me cook on low heat for hours without hot spots, if I control the flame properly on the stove. The heavy cast iron makes it easy to cook slowly, the enamel coating is almost non-stick and inert to tomato or acids that can react with metals. I love this pot because it heats evenly and slowly, and the red color is very cheerful in our white kitchen.

I cook mainly soups and stews (they can be reheated over a few days so I don't have to cook every night.) But my stainless pots tend to burn if I leave them to simmer. I think this is the most-used pot in my kitchen. It's heavy, however and the enamel can chip if you drop the top (not to mention ding your floor.) And it's a bit heavy to take in and out of the oven. I find that silicone mitts are the best for opening the lid or moving it in and out of the oven or on the stove as the stirrup handles get hot and you need a good grip on them.

I can't add to all the glowing praise but perhaps I can help you make a decision about size. The 5 1/2 qt size is small enough to make small batches of any food and big enough to make double batches of stews and sauces. I have baked bread, fried, deep fried, stewed, braised, and boiled in this pot. I have a bigger pot and a smaller one, but this one gets used almost every day. If you are wanting to upgrade to this product line, this size is the one to start with. By the way clean up is a breeze-- I have burnt food on, cooked tomato based sauces, burnt spillage on the outside and generally made a mess and my pot looks like new. If I had only one pot in my kitchen this would be it.

The price of the Le Creuset French Oven is prohibitive - it always has been. Ten years ago, I exchanged five beautiful but unwanted wedding gifts for this French oven. I feared that it might not be worth it, but my fears were ungrounded. The quality, beauty, and versatility of this product is unsurpassed. You can easily braise a meat on the stove, and then bake it in the oven. You can simmer tomato-based sauces for hours, or slow-cook a stew to perfection. If you have a family and enjoy cooking, you will use this product over and over. After ten years of heavy use, my pot still looks new and I still derive great pleasure in using it. Expensive? Yes, but quality items usually are. You will be so glad you bought this.

I LOVE THIS FRENCH OVEN! Ok, first you can use it on the stove top to sear the meat, deglaze the pan with red wine, place the meat in the bottom of the pan, cover with potatos, some carrots, some favorite herbs and a little extra red wine. Place it in the oven at 375 degrees and when the potatoes are tender, you will have a tender and tasty pot roast. This pot is the secret. I cannot tell you how good it is too cook with this pot! It really does take a good heavy "Dutch" oven like this with a heavy tight fitting lid to make a good pot roast and this is just the item. It is also great with sauces on the stove top and the ability to hold a steady heat is invaluable. The Pot is heavy, it is expensive. It is also beautiful (I love the red) and it is durable. Short of dropping it on stone, it is tough to harm. Cookware like this is an investment in the future, you will never replace it, but you will add on to your collection.

I love to cook. I've had my big brown Le Creuset pot for about 3 years now, which I got at their outlet, and it's my all-time favorite pot for cooking. It makes pot roasts, soups, stews, chili, tomato sauce--you name it. They have all been delicious. Slow cooking is ideal in this pot, and I find myself looking for recipes just so that I can make them in it! I loved this pot so much that I bought other pieces in red. I must say, you have to have strong muscles to lift these monsters, but it is so worth it. I also love this pot just to boil spaghetti in. I haven't tried the non-stick frying pans, since I have All-Clad for those, which are great too. I rearranged my whole kitchen to accomodate my Le Creuset pots so that they would be easily accessible for lifting. They are the crown jewels of my kitchen!
