Dozens of conical bristles on this Le Creuset silicone basting brush flex to baste the contours of poultry, pork, beef or vegetables. Unlike nylon bristles, the silicone will not shed, clump, stain, melt or retain odor. This basting brush holds sauce or marinade at the base of the bristles, releasing slowly to the tips for efficient distribution. The silicone-cushioned strike zone lets you tap off excess liquid into a bowl and protect the rim. Custom-designed in a smooth elliptical shape, the ergonomic wooden handle features grip rings for comfortable control and a tapered push/pull design for a slip-free grip. Removable silicone head is heat-resistant up to 480-Degree F, and dishwasher-safe. Perfect balance, design and grip, this Le Creuset tool excels in performance. The result of extensive research by an expert design team: an industrial designer, engineer and ergonomics expert, studying the geometry of cooking and baking vessels to arrive at ideal lengths and angles. Tested, evaluated and accoladed by consumers, this French-inspired tool modernizes the way home gourmets cook.
Top customer reviews
It works very well and it is well made - the handle and the head separately I guess - but for whatever reason, the silicone end comes off after use. I bought the whole set of these utensils and this is the only one that does this.
UPDATE 5/25/12 - After quite a bit of use now, the head actually hasn't fallen off in a while. I don't know how or why, but the issue seems to have corrected itself. I figured I'd leave the previous info up in the review as well, just so all truth be told about the item.
The silicone "bristles" are so soft and flexible. It holds sauces etc and deposits it on food perfectly.
As with the rest of this set of utensils, the handle is unfinished wood. So after a few washings, even if you dry it immediately, it gets lighter in color and very dry looking. I don't mind it. I love all of them. I haven't had any issues with the handles staining (yet), but I am careful not to get sauces of foods on them. I wash them right after using them, dry them and put them away.
