Introduction

All items in the Le Creuset stoneware range are original designs and have been hand-crafted, making each piece unique. Due to this uniqueness, there may be slight variations from piece to piece.

Le Creuset Stoneware is safe for use in the microwave, freezer, refrigerator, dishwasher, oven and broiler. The maximum oven-safe temperature is 500 degrees F / 260 degrees C.

The enameled surface is easy to clean and scratch-resistant. The enamel is completely hygienic and will not absorb odors or flavors. Le Creuset Stoneware is extremely strong and durable, and resists staining, chipping and cracking. The handles, knobs and rims have been designed for a secure, easy-to-hold grip.

Cleaning and Care

DO NOT use any Stoneware piece on the stovetop or any other direct heat source.

OVEN: Maximum oven-safe temperature is 500 degrees F / 260 degrees C. Use oven mitts for lifting at all times.

BROILER: When using under a broiler allow a gap of no less than 2 1/2 inches between the rim of the dish and the heat source.

MICROWAVE: Handles may become hot during prolonged microwave use, especially if the handles are enclosed with plastic wrap. Cover just the open top of the dish, leaving the handles exposed.

FREEZER-TO-OVEN USE: Do not place a frozen dish of food in a preheated oven. Place the frozen dish in a cold oven and set the temperature, allowing the dish and oven to heat together. Before serving always check that the center of the food is completely and uniformly hot.

CLEANING: Before the first use, wash the dish in hot, soapy water, and rinse and dry thoroughly. For most day-to-day cleaning, cool the dish for a few minutes before washing and drying, or wash in the dishwasher, allowing the full cycle to complete. Never leave a dish fully immersed in water. For removal of stubborn residues allow the dish to cool, fill with warm, soapy water and allow it to soak for 10 to 20 minutes. Wash in the usual way using a plastic brush or scouring pad if necessary.

I love this mug. I love that it's lead and cadmium free, which is why I originally bought it (safety reasons). I drink tea a lot, so I don't want chemicals building up in my body. This is a great safe alternative to other mugs. Also, it's sooo aesthetically wonderful, and easy to use! The handle is not too thin or not too thick -- it's about 1.25 inches (handle hole) and the handle itself is 0.25 inches (handle part). The top of the cup is slightly flared, making drinking easier, and it's 3.5 inches wide. It's 4 inches tall. And it looks simple, elegant but durable. Love it! Very thankful and happy I could get it, thanks Amazon for offering this!

We ordered one of these to check out the quality before ordering more. The 'made in china' sticker was concerning, and so I used a lead test kit to determine if it had ANY lead in it. The test returned negative and so we are ordering more.

When I discovered Le Creuset had come out with a line of deep purple products (Cassis color), I knew I was ready at long last to get a few more enameled cast iron cookware pieces. The stoneware is just as pretty as the enameled iron, but there is one major drawback.

My primary concern is that the stoneware pieces are made in China (or Vietnam, if I recall correctly from the now-discarded packaging.) I'm willing to pay more for Le Creuset iron because I know a certain level of worker- and environmental-safety can be assumed in a product manufactured in France. The name brand on this stoneware adds a LOT to the price, but I don't know if the production deserves the price premium over attractive stoneware I could purchase at mass merchandise stores. That said, the quality of all the Le Creuset stoneware pieces I've received so far has been good--smooth edges, gorgeous color, no chips or bumps or visible flaws.

I have two of these mugs, given to me as a gift. They are slightly larger than a "standard" coffee mug--i.e., the kind your company might give out with its logo as a freebie--but they aren't so enormous as to be unwieldy (too heavy) or to let my coffee cool before I drink it all. I like the size. My (ladies' medium) hand fits comfortably in the handle. Since receiving these last month, they've become my go-to mugs when I reach into the cupboard every morning.

***UPDATE***
I discovered today that the Le Creuset Stoneware Mug makes a perfect base for pressing AeroPress coffee! Of course, a standard mug will also work, but the wider, heavier Le Creuset mug is very secure and sturdy, and probably the best mug in my kitchen for enjoying my new coffee maker. This mug (in blue) was a present and I loved it so much I wanted to buy more. But after all the negative comments here, I got worried about lead content. I bought a test kit at an Ace hardware store, and the test came out negative, showing no lead content. I tried the test on another piece that I had my doubts about, and sure enough, that test was positive. So the test seems to be working fine. On re-reading the reviews, I was struck that people had jumped to the conclusion about lead, based only on the fact that they're manufactured in China. Given past stories about items made in China, the concern is understandable, but writing very negative reviews based on speculation is unjustified. I'm now ordering a few more.

It is pretty, but the interior glaze is coming off. I have only used it twice. I hand washed it, too. It is made in China. Had I know that I never would have ordered it. It is pretty, but no better than the cheaper stuff made in China.

I'm a fan of those big sturdy coffee shop mugs. Since I'm not into stealing or austerity, I decided to buy this to spoil myself. This is a big 12 ounce mug made of sturdy crockery with a good sized handle you can really grab, and it keep a large cup of coffee warm for a while (it does, after all, have an open top). It is a bit expensive, but I only really need one mug, so what's the difference? It's the most colorful thing in my barracks room, which is nice, because I like looking at the deep blue glaze. If you're a single dude who wants a mug to write home about, this is the one.

With so many Made in China ceramics bleeding lead paint into our systems I decided to purchase these since Le Creuset specializes in high temperature ceramics and ironware cooking products. I figured that at least my coffee would be unleaded.
What they do not tell you is that these mugs are made in China and now I am once again worried about their quality.
I wish they'd at least mentioned this fact and I would probably not have purchased a set of them. In fairness they look good but who knows how they were made and at 11$ a pop, I can get a dozen of other made in China mugs that look the same.

I bought four of these Le Creuset mugs in different colors. The packaging was good -- large bubble wrap tightly taped around each. They came with those horrible sticky labels on the bottom that don't peel off in one go, but I soaked them overnight in water and that makes them come unstuck easily. A separate little clear label said "Made in China."

They're capacious and comfortable to hold. The lips are about 1/8ths of an inch thick on each, though the cobalt blue and red mugs inexplicably have thicker walls below the lip (and thus will hold less coffee or tea than the others). The glazing is also fairly consistent, in bright and cheery saturated colors. The interior is a pale coffee color, not white, and not noticeably different to the naked eye across the mugs.

However, one of the four came with a slight mar in the glaze: the fennel green mug has a small-sand-grain-sized imperfection in the glaze that is quite obvious. I'm surprised it passed Le Creuset quality standards. I wouldn't complain normally -- it looks as sturdy as the others -- but when I pay $12 to $16 for a single mug by Le Creuset, I expect perfection.
