"Incredibly beautiful and heartbreaking." -- Independent Review
From the Author
In the back of our minds, we all know that at some point our lives will end. We take comfort in that fact by fooling ourselves into thinking our end will come on some far-off date, after we've lived long, full lives. We pretend that we'll die in our sleep of old age without ever having to think about our death and what it means or how it affects the ones we love.
But for the majority of us, that isn't the case. We're faced with too many outside variables, too many diseases and accidents and other varying factors. So what then? What happens when we're forced to face our mortality much sooner than we planned?
That's what this story is about. A young man learns he has inoperable brain cancer. Now, with only months to live, he has to face the reality of his situation. He's leaving behind two young boys and a wife. They'll still have all the debt with only half the income. Plus, they'll be mourning his death. It's overwhelming, and he doesn't know how to handle it. So he joins a support group for terminally ill people, and it's there he learns the greatest lessons of his life.
Though this story strays from my usual genre, I'm glad to have written it, and I'm immensely proud of the way it turned out. I hope everyone who reads it gets something out of it.

I hope to take more time and spend it with my family, away from school books. Clyde reminds us of our mortality by saying, “But there’s always been a clock counting down your time left on this earth. It’s been counting down since you drew your first breath. That shouldn’t come as a surprise to you now.” Death feels more tangible after reading this. Because of that, life feels like it is not too late to change. Great book.
The Criers Club makes you remember that family will always have love. The book reminds you of what is important in your life. I thought about faith, my relationship with my family, and even old friends. The book was more than words, at least it was for me – it was a personal journey.
Adam learns to talk and share about what he's going through. The support group helps him. Clyde is the leader, Justin is withdrawn, but Millie is a riot!! Millie stole the show (or should I say, the book?), but she always have good advice when it was needed.
I like how Adam and Justin evolved in the book. There were preconceived notions by Adam concerning Justin, but it was nice how their friendship grew closer.
The support group came together to help each other, even outside of their meetings. I especially loved what they did for Leah's son, Dillion (I'm not going to spoil the surprise).
Throughout the book, I laughed, and I cried. This book took me on a rollercoaster of emotions, and I enjoyed it immensely. You will cry, but on the flip side of the coin (as the book says), there is laughter.
I highly recommend it.
