I was sucked right into this book. I forced myself to read slowly, so I could take notes for a special purpose, but it was very hard to take the time to jot down the notes—I wanted to keep turning pages! There are two major threads woven together throughout the book, plus a minor one—lots going on here! As I've found in nearly all of Chautona Havig's books, there were times I laughed out loud, and times I had to really think about what she was saying. I appreciate books that make me think. I must say, I was very surprised by the ending—and I didn't like it very well. The villain was not who I expected. If you like a good mystery, or a clean romance with a clear Christian message, this book is a winner.

I was fortunate that as soon as I read Manuscript for Murder, my friend had this book waiting to loan to me. I have to say upfront, I Love Alexa.... She is probably my favorite character of all of Chautona's "people". And i have to say on this one... I did not see the "who did it coming". Now I may have been focusing on Joe and Alexa but still I was surprised when the "killer" was revealed.
Again, I write reviews about how a book makes me feel, not a story summary. This book (like all of Chautona's) made me feel like I was right there in town. Like i was a friend who had come to visit and Alexa was telling me what happen. Good books (and authors) make you feel like the characters are your friends by the end of the book. Chautona did that again in this book

I didn't review book 1 because I was so anxious to get on to you guessed it book 2. If you want spine chilling murder mysteries these are not your books. This is a wonderful series with humor, zany characters, set in a town you want to get up out of your chair and wander down the street. What more could you ask for than a light dusting of romance and then a truly intriguing murder mystery. If this is your type of story wait no longer and get started. I would suggest you read all three and in order. I haven't enjoyed three books so much. Yes, I said three because I couldn't stop long enough to write a review before reading book 3 and yes you might as well buy it now so you won't have to stop between this and the next. What are you waiting for GO

This was my second time reading this book, having read it first about three years ago. My first time through, I found this mystery incredibly engaging and was quite surprised at the reveal. Since I knew where it was going this time, I found I actually enjoyed it even more the second time through. There are so many hilarious conversations and lots of great relationship building that I think I read too quickly the first time because I was desperate to figure out the mystery. I love a series that gets better with every re-read, and this one is definitely a favorite now.

Love her style...just not this story line. While I LOVED the first book of the series, this one didn't measure up for me. There was definitely a fishy feeling I got from the whole business sponsorship, and felt like Alexa didn't do enough research into it before jumping in and putting thousands of dollars behind it.

The whole plot for me just seemed disjointed. It just didn't flow as well as her last book in the series. Also, the grammatical and spelling mistakes should not be there and were annoying. I do enjoy the dynamic between John and Alexa, but even that wasn't enough to keep me from rushing through the book. Maybe the next installment will be better. I hope so!

As I was reviewing the list of books by author Chautona Havig, I discovered I'd neglected her series "The Hartfield Mysteries", so I went to amazon.com and purchased the first one, "Manuscript for Murder". I was drawn in by the characters so completely that as soon as I finished, I went back and purchased the second, "Crime of Fashion".....This has enough twists and turns to keep the story line fresh and moves right along, and enough romance to satisfy the incurable romantic in all of us. I am NOT so patiently waiting for the third book in the series, "Two O’Clock Slump"!

The growing relationship between Alexa and Joe is lovely to read, and the mystery is interesting too - though a rather sad solution. Now the question - do I dare start the next book in the series yet, or will it stop me doing even more and so I should wait a while...
