Crimson Blues features a criminal lawyer from New York City who decides to go out West to a small town to reconnect with life. Everything about the town seems perfect, including a hot, single neighbor. However, there's a snake in paradise. Amanda has stumbled upon a series of mysteries, first and foremost, who is trying to scare her into leaving town, and why?
I think the author did a great job creating a likable main character, something that can be hard to do, as really smart, talented, and successful characters run the risk of being too not like us.
I like the main character's dog, which was not only lovable, but also a force in the plot, as well as making it so the main character wasn't just talking to herself.
I also liked the setting of a small, Western town, the landscape, the gossip that comes with a tight-knit community, and how current regional concerns, like water rights, were a strong subplot in the book.
There were a few loose ends that I didn't feel fully resolved. And I have no idea why the book is titled Crimson Blues, though it sounds cool.
I, personally, am rooting for a sequel. I would love to accompany the heroine on more adventures.
Life in a small town is much different from New York. The neighbors soon adopted Amanda and her little dog and made them feel at home. With the small town gossip, everyone knew everything that went on in town.
The mystery involving the school board seemed to involve many people in town. When suspicious incidents began happening to Amanda, she didn't know who to trust. She didn't want to leave the town that she already loved, but was her life in danger? Who was behind it? She couldn't go to the sheriff, because he was part of the clique. She and the new school superintendent teamed up to solve the mystery. As they grew closer to solving the mystery, they grew closer to each other.
Very fun story.
I liked the characters very much. Amanda's capable, smart and tricky--Kevin's loyal, brave and interesting.
Definitely a book I would recommend to my friends.
