This is the conclusion of Laila and Aiden’s story and it certainly didn’t disappoint. It was an absolute train of suspense throughout.

With Juan hot on their heels and determined to get back what he considers his, Laila, Aiden, Ethan and Jorge are on the run.

I felt connected to the characters in this book. I could understand why Laila had a hard time trusting that Aiden was acting in her best interests. I knew she did what she did to protect Aiden and Jorge even though it was a facepalm moment and I just thought trust him you silly girl!!

I liked the bromance between Aiden and Jorge, how one friend will literally put their life on the line for friendship.

The confrontation scenes were awesome but the author had built the suspense to such a degree, that you knew that when it was time to pay the piper it was going to make for good reading.

Knife fights, fist fights, bombs and a shootout were excellently choreographed by the author so I really felt I had to duck.

This book is brilliantly written and is original. I thought the first book didn’t really contain original ideas but this book certainly did. I have never read a book where it covers a whole cat and mouse chase and the author did it fantastically well.

I cannot fault the execution of this story. I could feel the blows, I could taste the metallic blood in my mouth and I don’t think my heart rate dropped until the very end! The author definitely has talent and I would put her in my to read list without hesitation.

Crimson Desert (Bittersweet Duet #2)
By: Melissa Jane
5/5 stars

*I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.*

At the end of book 1, we learn that not everything was as it seemed. But the damage was already done concerning Laila’s ability to trust Aiden and that shows significantly throughout the first part of the book. There are arguments between several of the characters and tensions are high. Of course, they are also on the run from Hector Florez & his son Juan, whose criminal enterprise and reach expands into an entire network throughout the US & Mexico.

Because of Laila’s brother’s deception to the Florez family many months ago, Hector had decided that Laila would pay the price. But then Aiden plotted & helped her escape Hector’s mansion in Mexico and he became the number one most wanted by the Florez Cartel, with Laila a very close second.

The reader does learn some more backstory about Aiden, and I had actually figured that out in the first book, but it was confirmed. This gives us a deeper feeling for Aiden and the need & excuse for ruthless behavior. I already hated Juan & Hector, but I hated them a little bit more during this book. Their crazy became even crazier. There are times when you have to suspend belief and just read the story. But in the back of your mind, if you’ve seen any news reports about how cartels south of the border operate, then you know that it can & usually is so much more brutal than how the author describes. (I’m glad she didn’t delve into that brutality.)

We do get to see more of Danny, Aiden’s military friend, and I enjoyed his dark humor and his presence in this book just as much as I did in the first one. I’m definitely planning on reading his book, Laughing Eyes, next. The last book in this series, Sofia, is due to be released soon and as much as I love this series, I’ll be reading it next!

I rarely ever hive five stars but this series so far has been a thrilling read. The characters were well written and easy to connec to. I literally cringed and laughed during the book, really had me on the edge of my seat.

So a little about the story: Laila and Aiden story continues from Little Doll. They just escaped Mexico but are still hunted by Hector's men and Juan. Ethan is revealed to be alive and well, although on the run for crossing Hector. Ethan and Aidan had foiled a sale of his of two underaged girls hence Ethan took the fall and went into hiding in book 1. The plot in this book was well thought out and written in first person PoV which worked beautifully to tie the story together.

5 Dark, Suspenseful, Awesome Stars!!!

Loved, Loved, Loved this sequel:) I loved the writing as it flowed seamlessly, the storyline, it was sick, dark, twisted and yet the intense heat between Aiden and Laila, yum, the "players" in this story were well-written so much so you loved the good guys and boy truly felt the hate for the the bad guys. This story was the perfect conclusion for Aiden and Laila. It was fast-paced, it was suspenseful and mysterious and yet it also had those "sweet" filled moments too..... For me, the story had it all:)

All I can say is Aiden, oh Aiden, he was hot, sexy, swoon-worthy, arghhhhh he was the epitome of warped perfection!!!!!!!! Laila, I truly loved her....Her character was perfect for Aiden and I just loved every bit of them. Now, I would love a short little novella on the two of them in the future and see where they ended up...any kids, just anything to know they are doing GREAT because they both deserve nothing but true bliss:)

This is book 2 of the series and you need to read Little Doll before starting.

We pick up right where we ended with Ethan showing up at the hotel. Laila is angry for Aiden's secret but she soon realizes what he did was for her safety. Now, Aiden, Laila, Ethan and Jorge are on the run. Juan is determined to get Laila back and has people all over working for him. Hector is beyond angry and wants Aiden dead for taking Laila. It won't be easy, by Aiden is determined to keep Laila safe, get his revenge against his family and hopefully have Laila by his side at the end.

There are a number of stressful scenes that will keep you on the edge trying to guess what will happen. Laila doesn't disappoint and still has her feisty attitude and smart mouth. You'll fall more in love with Aiden and his protectiveness.

Danny's book, Laughing Eyes, is next and already released.
