I was kept up well into the night reading these stories. While at times they can be a bit scary, I just had to keep turning the page to see what tragic ending these poor people would meet. The flow of the stories are fast paced and the characters themselves were all intriguing. This box set is a good starting place for those who haven’t dived into the world and a great companion to those who thoroughly enjoy the series.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys horror short stories.
The stories included in this box set are:
Defragmenting Daniel: The Organ Scrubber (Book 1)
I received an ARC at no cost from the author and voluntarily reviewed it. All my opinions and thoughts are in no way influenced by this.
Final Rating: 5 Stars
But another thing I love about Webeloff is that as soon as the reader feels like he or she knows what is going on, the curveball comes and really messes with our minds. I have yet to read a story - whether it's a story from Obsidian Worlds, or the Solace Pill, or a tale from the Bubble - that does not make me think about some philosophical choice or idea and take me beyond the words on the page. I want to inject myself into the story and imagine what I would do in that case. Most of the time, I am glad that I do not have to make the choices.
This collection of stories contains some that are familiar to Werbeloff's loyal readers and a few that are brand new. Included in this series are the first book in the Defragmenting Daniel Trilogy (Defragmenting Daniel: The Organ Scrubber (Book 1)) plus Manufacturing Margaret, Investing Isobella, Oscillating Olaf, Patenting Peter, Severing Sidney, and Aborting Andromeda. I must warn you, however, that these books are addictive. As soon as you read one, the need to read the others will follow very quickly. Werbeloff will become one of your favorite authors. I received an advanced reader copy of this series and I chose to purchase a second copy to give to a friend because it is that good. Any chance I can get to spread good fiction to a friend is worth the price of purchase.
Once you begin to explore his amazing Bubble world, everyday activities and relationships expand in a myriad of new and unforeseen ways.
Each venture into the future's Bubble adds new characters that mesh well with ones we've met before, yet are distinctly different. Each foray results in an intriguing twist or several.
This collection also includes Aborting Andromeda, introducing us to the idea that in the Bubble there is no need to rush into an abortion. Heavy but provoking, as is often the case with Mr. Werbeloff's concepts. You'll be forced to think and consider and reevaluate on many levels.
Each of these stories stands securely on its own, and the set as a whole is a wonderful experience. Be prepared to flinch a bit, gasp a lot, and utter a number of Wows. This is great stuff from the master of intelligent science fiction.
A brilliantly written set of stories by Jason Werbeloff.
A warning to the squeamish and faint hearted as there violent scenes in the story.
The first six novellas are a great introduction to the dystopian Bubble world created by Jason. The novellas got me deeply engrossed into the Bubble world which is further expanded in the Defragmenting Daniel:: The Organ Scrubber. Jason has managed to create a very dark and dismal future dystopia which is a lovely and rich environment for his story but not a world I would like to live in.
Once I started reading it, I could not stop until I finished all 7 stories. I even bought the Defragmenting Daniel trilogy as I was wanted to finish the entire story line as the story was engrossing and addictive as I needed to find out if Daniel manages to get all his organs back or not.
I received an ARC at no cost from the author and voluntarily reviewed it with my own fair and honest opinions.
I however purchased the Crimson Meniscus to add to my ebook collection.
I'm helpless to change the fates of the characters, and happy endings aren't the norm, yet I couldn't put the books down.
If you like having your brain twisted around new ideas, give Jason Werbeloff a try. The Crimson Miniscus is a great place to start!
