About the ManhattanGMAT Strategy Guides

The ManhattanGMAT Strategy Guides offer students a unique balance between two competing emphases: test-taking strategies and in-depth content understanding. Most prep courses focus on the strategic portion of the GMAT - timing, shortcuts, etc. However, we believe that unless a student has a solid understanding of the content, the tricks won't be of any use. Therefore, we include practice problem sets that build specific foundational skills in each topic as well as advanced content that many other prep books ignore.

This is a really good resource for Critical Reasoning. The best part is that you get access to the Manhattan Online problem sets. Some of these questions are more difficult than the real test, but I guess that's to be expected from all the Manhattan series.

I loved this book. I actually used the RC, SC and CR of Manhattan and improved my verbal scores by a huge margin.

If you are preparing for the GMAT, this book is a great introduction to the critical reasoning in the verbal section of the exam. Good explanation and technique for someone who has difficulty in battling critical reasoning.

I have to admit, I'm slowly making my way through the MGMAT guides, with an additional month of prep time over the recommended 3 month window. With that said, I could have gone through the book in a week as a 3 month timeline would suggest, but I lazily moved through it after 2.5 weeks --Either way, you'll find the content easy to understand and will be provided very useful strategies along the way. Their Critical Reasoning book has been my absolute favorite book of the series. It breaks down in a very simplistic, and almost effortless way, to recognize each passage as you read, and how to recognize certain verbal ques when answering the questions. Although it's simplistic to begin with, MGMAT does a really great job on breaking down the fundamentals into simplistic, digestible bits (unlike some of their wording for their Math Guides). If you've purchased only the math guides, but are feeling unsure whether to invest in their verbal guides due to a lack of confidence, do not hesitate. MGMAT has truly "broken it down like a fraction" in their verbal guides (at least CR and RC, the one's I have completed so far). I find now that I am only missing 1 question wrong (due to my own error, usually trying to complete the passage too quickly) out of every 10-15 questions. Anyone familiar with the GMAT knows this isn't poor --You're not expected to get all questions right. This is a different kind of test, and MGMAT has done a great job with supplementing materials for the verbal section!

If you have questions, please add to the comments and I would be glad to help.

The Critical Reasoning section of GMAT has become more difficult over the years. The Official Guides are no longer reflective of the more difficult questions the real GMAT will give you.

This book does a credible job of covering all the CR question types. In my opinion, the GMAT CR is more difficult than LSAT CR (yes I have studied LSAT as well). In tougher GMAT CR problems, there is only 2 obvious wrong answers. The rest of the 3 answers are at least partially correct. It takes high level analysis and fine tuning of the passages to find the right answer.

The book provides a fine guideline on how to determine the right answers to all CR problems. I do not like nor recommend, however, this book's advocacy on writing out the logic of the passages on paper. You will be too pressed for time if you do so.

Overall, this is a worthy purchase and worthy of your precious GMAT study time.
