Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

*Starred Review* Count on one hand the stitchery reference guides you can trust: Vogue, for one, also Better Homes and Gardens. Then there are the specialty presses, like Interweave. Now, adding to the well-established Harmony Guides series from Interweave is a collection of 150 crochet edgings, all geared to turn a plain Jane garment or blanket into a designer-worthy item or gift. The basics are admirably covered, with special attention paid to black-and-white illustrations of stitch how-to’s. The stitches follow, each with a close-up color photograph of the finished products along with prose direction and stitch diagrams. Innovation reigns: it will be hard to decide between beaded loops or pintuck ridges, dandelion dangles, or star fringes. The only drawback? That the stitches aren’t grouped in any particular order, whether by style or by level of difficulty. Nonetheless, a welcome, detail-laden supplement to long-treasured references. --Barbara Jacobs

Edgings are fun--you can make a design by taking a flat piece of something (towel?) or you can dress up a plain knit or crochet design with an edging. (One gift I was given is a regular old hand towel with a crocheted top and loop, and some decorative edging. It is the HANDIEST thing for the bath, kitchen or garden to wipe hands. If you like to crochet and give gifts, these are fun to make and great to give as a houseguest gift.)

This book has edgings in crochet, along with large photos and clear diagrams. UNLIKE many edging books (and there are MANY), this book is useful for the way it's presented. There may not be so many edgings, and they may be some you've seen before (half rounds, shells, etc) but the photos are so large and clear, and the diagrams so easy to read that it makes crocheting a breeze. There are WRITTEN instructions below, for those of you who do not like charts.

There were a few unusual edgings I particularly liked--several interesting fringes including a fan-like Dandelion Fringe (fringe emanating from a flower center on the band), an undulating fringe and a tassel-like fringe. I also liked a simple cable band that had a sideways ribbed cable; this would be a wonderful way to add cable insertions to a crocheted vest.

There are many things you can do with these edgings. Even though you may have an edging book, I recommend this one for the new edgings and the beautiful, clean pages with easy-to-read instructions. Very nice book.

This is such a fantastic book!!! I love almost every edging pattern in it - yes, some are simple, but that is what I am looking for. I make crocheted-edge blankets for Project Linus. I also have Crocheted Borders by Edie Eckman, but I actually like this book better. The Eckman book explains the math better for figuring out your spacing, but I much prefer the patterns in this book. The Eckman book has too many fancy edgings that I will never use.

This is a nice book. I have already used one of the edgings on a blanket. It has the written instructions and a picture of the stitches which makes the patterns easy to follow. I would recommend this book to anyone who crochets.

I am very impressed with this book . I was looking for patterns of crochet edgings and trims to add to doll or little girl clothes and found this book.
it was exactly what I was looking for. I feel I can add many of these trims to a variety of clothes, knitted crocheted or sewn. Many beautiful styles for adult clothing also.

All the Harmony Guides are worth there weight in gold. I love the fact that the cover is somewhere between a paperback and a soft cover. I am a frills kind a gal which this isn't a frilly pattern book. It is a great guide none the less. Not everything I make is for girls/women and to have some edgings that are neutral is wonderful. As is with all Harmony Guides, the images are vibrant and it contains the tools needed to begin. It also contains a how too guide and teaches you how to write your own patterns with stitch diagrams and how to read patterns guide. Lovely presentation as always. Great for beginners. I have been crocheting for 22 years. I just love these guides and am collecting everyone.

Lots of pretty ideas for edging your crochet projects. Gives step by step instructions in writing as well as pictures. I find that watching it in action on YouTube is a lot more helpful, but this is a great place to start when looking for something special to add to your repertoire.

I have two other books by this publishing company, Basic Crochet Stiches, and Lace and Eyelets. The pictures are wonderful, so I knew crochet edgings & trims would be also. It is a very helpful guide.
