Before even getting to the recipe sections, the book educates the reader on slow cooker sizes, types of slow cookers, cooking, stirring and food safety addressing subjects such as frozen foods, pasta and rice, beans, vegetables, herbs, liquids, milk, fish and baked goods. It is then divided up into particular sections on main meal preparation (I especially liked the sections Double Duty, 30-Minute Main Dishes and Family Favorites), soup (Soup for Supper), and even desserts (Sweet Treats). Every recipe is beautifully illustrated with full page color photographs which make your mouth water!
One thing that realy stood out about this book is that is was so culturally versatile. From what I have observed on many cooking shows these days, the emphasis seems to be on Asian, Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Mexican or Thai cooking. Certainly there are plenty of recipes in this book illustrating this type of cooking (i.e. Gingered Beef with Peppers and Mushrooms, Hoisin Barbecued Chicken Thighs, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Sweet and Sour Shrimp with Pineapple, Chicken Biryani, Indian Style Curried Drumsticks, Japanese Style Simmered Chicken Thighs, Carne Rellenos, Shredded Beef Fajitas, Beef Fajitas, Simple Shredded Pork Tacos, Tortilla Soup, Thai Coconut Chicken and Rice Soup, Thai Chicken and Noodles).Read more ›
I have bought and given away a few other crock pot books, (a person only needs one to my way of thinking) but this nice book is a keeper. I have used two of the recipes, and am anxious to do more. The other reviewer was disappointed, but maybe it was more the condition of her book than the list in the index? There is a hefty number in the SOUP category, but that appeals to this cook. My aunt looked through this book and went to get her own copy! It is a very beautiful book.
