Hard to believe it but I orginally purchased a copy of this cookbook at our local TJ MAXX. Gosh, I am glad I did it! This is the PROVERBIAL slow cooker cookbook. It is brimming full of slow cooker recipes I will be able to use in months to come.

Before even getting to the recipe sections, the book educates the reader on slow cooker sizes, types of slow cookers, cooking, stirring and food safety addressing subjects such as frozen foods, pasta and rice, beans, vegetables, herbs, liquids, milk, fish and baked goods. It is then divided up into particular sections on main meal preparation (I especially liked the sections Double Duty, 30-Minute Main Dishes and Family Favorites), soup (Soup for Supper), and even desserts (Sweet Treats). Every recipe is beautifully illustrated with full page color photographs which make your mouth water!

One thing that realy stood out about this book is that is was so culturally versatile. From what I have observed on many cooking shows these days, the emphasis seems to be on Asian, Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Mexican or Thai cooking. Certainly there are plenty of recipes in this book illustrating this type of cooking (i.e. Gingered Beef with Peppers and Mushrooms, Hoisin Barbecued Chicken Thighs, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Sweet and Sour Shrimp with Pineapple, Chicken Biryani, Indian Style Curried Drumsticks, Japanese Style Simmered Chicken Thighs, Carne Rellenos, Shredded Beef Fajitas, Beef Fajitas, Simple Shredded Pork Tacos, Tortilla Soup, Thai Coconut Chicken and Rice Soup, Thai Chicken and Noodles).

Bought this for the nephew who is trying to begin cooking for himself. I wanted to give him an old crock pot cookbook of mine but I couldn't find it and I'm glad I couldn't, this one it better. What I liked for the newbie was that nearly every recipe is illustrated, a big plus if you don't know what you're shooting for. There is a very valuable chapter, I can't remember what they called it, but the facing page offers a completely different recipe that utilizes the leftovers from the first recipe. I read through all the recipes and they seem to offers solid instructions. I'm sure he'll have many great meals from this cookbook.

This appears to be a regular bound book, but is spiral on the inside, to make the beautiful photo pages lay flat. There are pictures of the final product on every page, and helpful "hints" and "notes". Most of these slow cooker classics go together in a flash, and of course you would customize them to suit your taste.

I have bought and given away a few other crock pot books, (a person only needs one to my way of thinking) but this nice book is a keeper. I have used two of the recipes, and am anxious to do more. The other reviewer was disappointed, but maybe it was more the condition of her book than the list in the index? There is a hefty number in the SOUP category, but that appeals to this cook. My aunt looked through this book and went to get her own copy! It is a very beautiful book.

Many of the recipes I already had in "Crock-Pot, The Original Slow Cooker." My other complaint is that many of the recipes require pre-cooking meat or adding ingredient is different steps throughout the day - not exactly helpful if you are gone at work all day. I prefer the dump it and cook all day recipes.

I thought there would be a wider variety of recipes and more meat or casserole type recipes. Most were soup recipes. When I think of a crock pot or cookbook for meals, I don't think "soup" as the primary selection options. The book was also dirty or stained. I was disappointed with the condition of the book. It looked as if it had gotten wet at some point and the ink ran and stained the back cover and some of the paged. I wish I'd shopped for a book at the bookstore instead where I could have looked it over myself before buying.

Bought for my daughter-in-law and she loves it. Recipes she actually likes and easy to make. Best Crock-Pot cook book she has ever had, is what she told me.
