Nearly 10 years and still works great

I purchased this crock pot in January 2014 and it still works like new. I love to make homemade soups and stews all year long. I've even made refried beans. For a long time I had this one along with the old crock pot that did not have a separate insert. Eventually the old crockpot heating element died. Those old designs were not easy to clean at all. I have found that having the removable insert makes it easy to clean because you can soak it for a day and then scrub it with a brush. Also, I can remove the insert, cover it and keep it in the fridge to later reheat. It is a heavy insert so keep that in mind when you are removing it and it is full. I've had minimal experience with the locking lid since I don't bring it to potluck dinners, just eat at home. There is a vent on the glass cover for steam to escape. I've had no problems at all with denting or melted handles. Not sure why some people had that happen to their model. I have the 6 qt and it fits my needs but sometimes I wish I had the 8 qt. I never go to bed with the crock pot on and never leave the house if it is on either. I know after all this time it won't catch fire but I don't like the risk. If I have to run out for an errand, I will turn it off and then turn it back on again when I return home. I wish there was a feature to automatically shut off like my rice cooker. After all these years, this dependable crock pot is my mainstay and I would buy again.

I have had several crock pots over the years, from the original basic round version made by Rival without a removable insert back in the 1970's (very few of the later versions have been able to compare to that old workhorse -- wish I still had it!) to more deluxe programmable versions -- last one about 12 years ago. It is still working fine, but it is round, so the shape is not ideal for larger roasts. I also find it to be quite a hassle trying to transport it for potlucks and such (lid taped down, crock pot wrapped in a towel & placed in a box - still sometimes resulting in a mess). Years ago, I used my crock pot once or twice a week, but now that my family is grown, I only need it occasionally. So, when I ran across this manual model on special for a great price during the holidays, I thought I would give it a try. There were lots of reviews for it, both good & bad, so here is my two cents...This is my first oval crock pot and the overall quality of the brand seems to have declined and this is also by far the lightest in weight of all of the crock pots I have owned (none of which have failed, one was lost in a move, I cracked the lid of one and couldn't find a replacement, and I broke the stoneware insert on another). The stainless steel shell on this model would be very easy to damage (dents/scratches) although the stoneware insert seems fine. Heftier extensions on the insert would be nice for lifting it out of the crock pot. I like the idea of the locking lid in principle, but unless I let it air dry in a perfectly vertical position after washing, water can collect inside the clips, can't be reached with a towel. I also don't care for the seal; I thought it would be removable for cleaning like a pressure cooker lid, but as far as I can tell, it is not. After I wash the lid, I use a soft toothbrush to clean around the seal.
As far as cooking, this doesn't really seem to be a slow cooker. The first time I used it, I made a four-pound roast and it was done in about half the expected time. I started off on high and turned it down to low after an hour. Luckily, I was home and able to monitor the cooking. With the liquid and vegetables, the crock pot was about 2/3 full and It turned out to be a delicious meal. For the second use, I tried my favorite 13-bean soup loaded with veggies and cooked it on the low setting for the entire time -- in this case, the crock pot was 3/4 full and it took quite a while to come up to heat and considerably longer to finish cooking than the expected time (it was lightly boiling around the edges but not even simmering in the middle) so I turned it up to high to finish it. The veggies were a little overdone so I will need to tweak my recipes a bit in order to use this crock pot efficiently. The high setting comes up to full heat quickly, but boils vigorously and the low setting doesn't heat evenly, so I don't think I will be able to just set and forget this crock pot, which does limit its versatility for me.
As many others have mentioned the cord is very short, which I understand is a safety feature, but it seems to me it could be a few inches longer. The stoneware maintains the heat for a long time after turning the unit off. The locking lid works well and will be great for tail-gating or potlucks (my main reason for purchasing, so I don't feel as if I need a fancy model with all of the bells and whistles). Even with the locking lid, transport can still be tricky as the exterior of the crock pot is very hot, so I decided to buy the travel bag for this crock pot, since it was on sale, as well.

I still have this i bought this 1 year ago it still locks great and cooks great.

I have had many brands and ALL seem to over time CRACK along the bottom. There still is no leaking though and that’s great.

I will buy this same one when i need to replace.

IF you ever need to replace any parts over time KEEP the parts that are still good so that you have on hand cause to REPLACE individuals parts can be hard to find and or pricey

This one replaced an original Crock Pot that finally quit after service since the early '80s. Quite a reputation to follow. I've had it for a couple years now (using it almost weekly) and so far, so good. My only complaints are that the stoneware insert should have "ears" to ease in lifting it from the heating unit and that there is no power indicator light so I have to hold my hand close to the unit and feel for heat to verify that it is indeed cooking.
Not a problem for me but I see by other reviews that the locking latches for the lid have been mistakenly used while cooking. They aren't meant for pressure cooking. They are for transporting the finished product without loosing the lid.

I like this crock pot although I would have preferred to have the option to set a timer on it. I kept in on warm overnight because I use it as a "Cholent Pot" for the sabbath. It was fine but I should have added more water to it before sunset because the result was a bit pasty. However, I would learn from this that if you leave it on warm add more water than you think necessary.
