About the Author

N.R. Walker is an Australian author, who loves her genre of gay romance. She loves writing and spends far too much time doing it, but wouldn't have it any other way. She is many things; a mother, a wife, a sister, a writer. She has pretty, pretty boys who live in her head, who don't let her sleep at night unless she gives them life with words. She likes it when they do dirty, dirty things...but likes it even more when they fall in love. She used to think having people in her head talking to her was weird, until one day she happened across other writers who told her it was normal. She's been writing ever since...

While I was very happy with the way CK 2 ended, I was curious to know how Alec handles being the most powerful vampire in the world. I was intrigued to find out how Ms Walker was going to write a compelling story when there really isn't much Alec can't do. I was very impressed with creatures that can manipulate time and are from another reality. The imagination that went into creating this story is fantastic! The main characters deal with love, loss, other-worldly creatures, and the real threat of their own destruction.

Why not 5 stars? While I did love the story, I didn't have as huge a book-hangover as I did with the first 2 books. It was still a fantastic end to a wonderful story!

I've enjoyed this series but the fact the author lost track of characters near the end of this one ruined it for me. The author actually confused the female Russian with the female Italian. Many times. It was the climax of the story and I was pulled out by the fact that the author was themselves confused by who was who.

This is the third, and possibly final, book in the Cronin's Key series. Alec MacAidan is the key to the survival of the human species. He's only been a vampire for the past 18 months, but he's the Chosen One, if you will, so he's had a busy time of it. I think it's a bit hard to pick this series up at the end, but, having read all the previous books, it's a fantastic adventure/romance.

In this book, the enemy is a group of otherworldly beings of lycan origin who call themselves Zoan. They are shapeshifters who can also stop time. The Zoan arrived on earth through a portal that opened straight from the pits of Hell, and Alec must figure out how to kill them, and shut down the portal before the world is under attack. Alec possesses every talent, or power, ever gifted to the vampire race, and he must use all of them to defeat the Zoan--if he can catch them.

In the meantime, petrified Zoan are being awakened all over the earth and new portals are opening. It's another race-against-time if Alec, Cronin and their band of vamps will have any chance to save mankind.

This is a fantastic adventure, though I had a few struggles with the fast pace and the constant motion. Part of the plot hinges on understanding the portals, where they are and how they work, and this means Alec must leap his group of vamps all over the world--in rapid succession--to investigate potential portals. At times, I think I was getting leaping sickness. I didn't get the "physics" behind the portals and parts where it was described, of which there are a few, dragged for me.

That said, Alec is faced by a foe he cannot initially defeat; the Zoan are ancient and possess power greater than his. Cronin is very sincerely worried that this battle may be the last. And, he's partly right.

This is the third (and presumably last) book about this group of vampires. The research on ancient history is excellent, something that pleases my geek side. The sci-fi side is perhaps a bit over the top, but nothing worse than the previous two - and I enjoyed those, too. A warning - there is more suspense than romance in this story.

The main idea of this book is that every good thing must be balanced by en evil one. In this case the creation of Alec as a vampire has elicited the release of some evil creatures. The portals being ancient circles.

Alec is almost all powerful with many unexplored abilities. Something that will be needed when this last battle is fought. We revisit old friends and add some new acquaintances. There is lots of leaping, so my head was spinning - who actually leapt whom? London, Paris, Rome and Moscow hide many secrets, not least the main churches there. The imagination of the author has really flourished in this story. I will definitely look twice at the next gargoyle I'll come across. I cannot tell much more without spoiling the fun for others.

Our English friend meets his fated during his visit to Moscow. And Alec experiences jealousy when they discover that there is an afterlife even for vampires. If there is something I would have liked to change is Cronin. In this book he is a pale version of the man we have encountered previously.

This is the third book of Cronin's Key. I have loved the two previous books and was tickled pink when this one came out. The story of Cronin and Alec is witty and heartwarming and sexy and scary. It all mixes together in a story that will have you looking at history in a whole new way. I love the way N R Walker has twisted history into a believable story of vampires and other creatures. There is humor and such tenderness that it makes your heart melt. The action is fierce and heart pounding. And the obvious love and tenderness between the characters makes the whole thing so much better than so many romances. The fact that it is a M/M story seems to be secondary to the fantastic story being told. It is about love and change and helping each other and being a caring person no matter who you love or whether you are human or vampire. I will be reading these books over and over whenever I need a feel good book. Thank you N R Walker for a beautiful story of unforgettable characters and a deep abiding love.
