Editorial Reviews

2009 release. For the last three years, Crooked X have been banging out their own brand of kick-ass Rock, inspired by greats such as Metallica, AC/DC and Led Zeppelin. They were discovered on the CBS' morning show Living Room Live where they came in second. This got the attention of media strategists/managers Spencer Proffer and Doc McGhee (Kiss, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi) who signed the 14 year olds up. They have been honing their live show while opening up for acts such as Black Stone Cherry, Ted Nugent and Kiss.

I first heard this band on Sirius' Octane station with the song, "Rock N Roll Dream" . I had no idea that they were a group of young men.....meaning teenagers. Still, this has no bearing on their music. Old school based metal with a twist of new.

I'm always thrilled to see yet another younger generation not just enjoying metal, but who are influenced by those of past bands. Great to see young people actually taking interest in musical instruments, instead of just bragging how they can create beats. Every song on this CD is refreshing and actually very listenable and can be played on radio.

Here's hoping these guys have a great career and thanks for continuing the struggle to keep heavy music alive.

I may be 50 years old now, but I still have an ear for great music. People who enjoy this kind of music should pick up a copy and enjoy.

2009 release from a bunch of guys that look barely old enough to be allowed to catch the bus on their own it certainly has all the fire that you’d expect from uninhibited rock ‘n’ roll. The music isn’t Steve Vai but then nobody said that was a requirement, in fact while it may sound rather twee to talk about the sheer joy of harmless ‘rockin’ out’ there is very much something to be said for a bunch of young dudes plugging in and having a blast.

As to specifics: The music is basically simply wrought hard rock that would probably go down a storm in any local club or the back bar of your local drinking establishment. The simple plan of attack is actually a breath of fresh air for its time of release given at that point everyone was either trying to be the next Slipknot heavier than thou band, grunting and growling to try to impress people with how brutal they were or – for the European bands – waffling about in either melodic 80’s revivalism to almost no financial return or going the symphonic/operatic route. As such a simple hard rock album with space in the arrangements, a smile on its face and no real grand plan other than to have a good time all the time.

Where the album wins over the audience is by its very persistence in attacking with these aforesaid simple structures. You think things will fall off the rails and descend into embarrassing mediocrity but they just don’t, song after song with meaty riffs just comes peeling out of your speakers. Sure it may be simple but how many times do you see a band fail to get it right?

Vocally things are pretty bog standard.

This is a band of teenage guys who really know how to rock!!! My husband who is a 56 year old retired cop loves this band. He got me hooked, and we blast this CD all the time.

They have such an amazing mature talant that is way beyond their years. We hope they are around for a long time to come.

This album is killer! I hear all kinds of influences, from the ones I mentioned in the title but also Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. The songs are great, the vocals and harmonies are amazing, and the music is ultra-heavy. It's hard to believe these guys are teenagers! Along with Black Tide, it appears there is a new generation of real metal still evolving.
This is definitely the album of the year so far, and I'll be surprised if anything can top it. Rock off!

Good alternative metal choice from this four piece band, coming to you from Coweta, Oklahoma. Tunes that had me playing this disc over several times were the ass-kicking "Rock N Roll Dream", "You Gotta Bleed", "Nail In The Coffin", "Nightmare" (nice guitar riffs) and "Lost Control". Did I hear right about the band members - are like 14 or 15? I have CD's older than that. But then again, don't we all? Should appeal to fans of King's X, Powerman 5000, Shinedown and possibly Linkin Park.

I was in the search for some new music and came across this at a Target for only 9 bucks, I figured it couldn't be wasteful (even if it sucked). From the moment the first song hit until it ended, I was impressed. I really like "Adrenaline". Good music without some of the typical verbal diatribe from other albums. Then, I found out these guys were about 15 when this dropped. Very cool stuff. The MTV special on these guys is pretty cool to watch. If you are in the search of solid tunes, recommend picking this up.

This band absolutely ROCKS ! I could'nt believe the depth and quality of the music for a band so young. I am awed with everything the band has put into this CD--its on the level of bands that have been around for years, actually better than alot of more experienced bands. Crooked X has become my fav CD to listen to , of course, totally cranked! I sincerely wish them the best for the future success and anxiously await their next CD. Check this cd out, you will not be disappointed.

Why is it that I just heard about this band recently. Poor promoting from the record company? I am a music lover and CD collector and I purchased this CD within the week. It is amazing!! It makes me so happy that kids this young are putting out real hard rock/heavy metal.
