Both of them are fabric, so a bit of moisture does get through. But, the amount of seepage not enough to get anything else wet unless it's actually touching the fabric. The seepage is notably greater for the InterDesign version but not a concern for us because the curtain is not touching anything. We have very low-flow shower heads, so it may be worse for others.
We've had these for two months, and the InterDesign is already growing mold, while the Croscill is not. We haven't yet washed them so I can't rate their ability to withstand washing, or rust around the grommets (for the Croscill). Hence, I have given it 4 stars pending those tests. But, so far if I were to buy these over, I would definitely buy two Croscills and avoid the InterDesign.
In spite of many reviews claiming they had no problems with the metal grommets rusting, the grommets on my curtain began to rust after only a month, and are now noticeably rusted after 2 months. Additionally, the hems around the sides and bottom of the curtain do not all face the same side of the curtain, so for the top and sides to have the finished side facing into the shower, the bottom has the hemmed sewn edge facing into the shower. This has resulted in rust staining from the water accumulating along the seam. Not sure if this is a manufacturing defect or just poor design.
UPDATE: 9-24-08-This product didn't perform as I had hoped, after all. It is not waterproof. It started to absorb water after I washed it the first time. It's never performed as it originally did before it was washed. I've had to put a vinyl liner behind it to prevent shower water from getting outside the tub.
I bought these because they're soft, sheer, and much more attractive than vinyl, but I never dreamed they'd last almost a decade. How much more can you ask of an inexpensive item??
