I am very pleased with this Crosley model. This is a nostalgic looking piece and it does what I expected it to - simply play records. That being said I also read the other reviews: yes there is an audible hum but I am not sure that wasn't there when I played my records in the 80s and I always play them loud enough to drown it out. Let's be honest if you were looking for sound quality - you would not be looking at records at all, you would be looking at digital music. The speakers aren't bad, but they are not fantastic either (Electrohome had them there). But the mechanics make this a much better choice than the other models - arm assembly is good quality and it can be adjusted. Table is sturdy and can be adjusted. Lid can be removed completely so it isn't a nuisance during play.
So I say yes. It's worth the $125 for the three or four times a week I plan to enjoy music on it. The rest of the time, my iPhone is bluetoothing music to my car or some other wireless device.
It does require a wall plug in to run, and it's not got a small footprint per-se. But what were you really expecting, a small set of portable speakers?
I only wish Crosley made all their record players at this quality. It's well worth the expense.
NOTE: this is NOT a high-end audiophile record player. This is for just popping an album on and enjoying, not dissecting the finer points of how well the $5K speakers you bought work.
Replacement was SO MUCH WORSE!
* Belt came off during shipping, and once I put it back on, i noticed it had the same motor hum but worse than the original!
* The needle arm returned before the record was even finished
* There was something loose and jutting around loudly inside when the needle returned to position as well as sometimes when putting the needle on... those sounds almost blew out my speakers a few times (Luckily the receiver had auto shut off to prevent damage).
I spent weeks looking through these Crosley players, and I finally had settled on this one... so I'm really bummed that it didn't work out. I wanted to give it a 3rd and final try but refund is the only option at this point online so I guess I'm stuck finding another system.
You guys may have better luck than me, but keep in mind: I was also optimistic when I ordered this, so just be careful and be prepared in case it doesn't work out!
A tip though- if the music is skipping, place a penny on the head of the reading arm needle thing. It'll provide enough weight to keep it from skipping, without damaging the vinyl.

First one started to slip & play 33rpm speed slowly as belt had lost tension after just less than a year and not heavy use.
Second one has started to cut out while playing and the sound quality of it is poor.
It looks and feels fantastic but lets you down with it's poor performance.
no problems with it
