Having such issues with such little use, tells me these are cheaply made. I won't be buying another Crosman.
My usage for this pellet gun is rather modest. I have some bird feeders at the front of my house. The seed droppings that result from the activity of the birds attract other small animals. When my Dobie looks out the front window and sees any of these animals he goes berserk with barking. I use the pellet gun to chase away the bark causers in order to restore quiet to my living room. I don't try to hit the animals but just scare them away. This gun does a fine job of doing just that. The pellet speed and the firing distance are just fine for my purposes therefore I rate this product five stars. The weight is nice, the appearance is nice, the price is reasonable and the performance is more than satisfactory. It's all good.
Highlights: Sturdily constructed of cast aluminum and heavy gauge plastic; easily adjustable sights for elevation and windage; very well balanced in the hand with comfortable grips; very accessible and easy to use safety (thumb slide to the right for "on" and slide w/forefinger to the left for "off", both while aiming); VERY easy to change CO2 cartridge in about 30 seconds; quick change of pellet cartridges.
A single 12gm CO2 cartridge provides up to 50 accurate shots (40 in temps below 50 degrees as the cartridge pressure decreases the colder it gets. I expect that I'll get even less come winter temps). I've used several brand/types of pellets & found the RWS 7gr WAD and the Crosman 7gr pointed hunting pellet to be the most accurate. Both provide the best penetration of all the pellets I've tried.
I bought this pistol so that I could rid my yard of pests, mostly chipmunks, but we have a few pesky gray squirrels too. To be humane, I don't use it for this purpose after the first 20 shots as the power drops off too much & I don't want any badly injured animal to still be able to get away & then just die a slow death. After 20 shots, I use up the cartridge for target shooting. For pest control, I recommend the RWS pellets that seem to have a better take-down result than the Crosman pointed.
Targeting at about 20 ft (beyond that I would be using my pellet rifle anyway) I found the pistol to be just fairly accurate with most pellets (a lot of wandering shots) and most consistently accurate with the RWS & Crosman pellets (mostly 2-inch groupings in first 30-40 shots).
All in all, for the modest price of this pistol, I think it is a great buy. If you want an all-steel duplicate of a .357 magnum, then go and spend $200 on the S&W version that will have similar accuracy. If you want something that will give you consistent 600 fps velocity, greater accuracy & let you use a heavier pellet, than you will need a nitro piston break-barrel, single-shot pistol in the $400 to $600 range. Otherwise, this is perfect for both pest control & fun plinking.

The gun itself has some good weight to it making it feel more realistic.
However, the grip on it is quite plainly trash.Read more
