About the Author

C. Michaels is from the Pacific NW but now lives in Mexico with her beloved Chow Chow, Rani. In her previous life, she taught programming languages at a community college near Seattle, and later taught in the java programming group for Oracle Corp. She has always had a love for the arts, in both writing and painting, finding Mazatlan's Paradise the perfect place to work. Her books are character driven, and will easily draw you into their crazy zany world, a place where for some, there are no scruples or decency. And, as much as you may think you have things figured out, the twisty plots keep the guessing alive, in both Cross Roads and NO FEAR! Each book is part of an ongoing sequel, with an undetermined end in sight. However, each book is independent enough to enjoy out of sequential order. On a personal note, the author uses her own artwork for the covers of her books.

Wind River is not at all what you would expect. Yes, it's a small town, and yes, most of the people know each other and are friendly. Most of the people, that is. When Ben returns to his favorite place in Idaho and brings a bombshell named Gloria along things are headed for a change of pace. There are so many great characters here that I'd have a hard time picking a favorite. Although the beginning is a little slow, once you get into the book you realize the setup needed to be done exactly the way it was.

Mr. Templeton is used to having everything his way. And he wants Sticks (the small inn next door). He will stop at nothing to get it. Ben and his friends Cue and Katie fight back. But things are not what they seem. The plot twists and turns deliciously as the reader is introduced to the beautiful landscape and fly-fishing paradise. Enter Mickey, who is on a quest of his own. Ben and Mickey become friends but Ben's not quite sure just who the old man is and why he has come to Wind River.

Gloria decides the grass is greener elsewhere but is it? Ms. Michaels both delights and confuses the reader by doubling back and presenting different ideas as to whom may be the villain. Can you guess who? Whether you love Romance, Mystery, or Contemporary Fiction you'll get it here. You'll be glad you started reading but you won't be able to put the book down!

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The funny thing is I almost stopped reading at the beginning with the introduction of a character who claims to be an angel - I do not do fantasy. So glad I stayed with the book because it wasn't at all what I thought. The characters, dialogue and storyline are excellent. This is one of those examples to hold up of just why KDP Select does work - I had a few free hours and was looking for something new to read, and this book was on an email I received promoting free kindle books for the day. I finished the book in one sitting. Now I will gladly pay to read more from this author.

I thought the book was going to be about the main character's life & challenges after losing his job. That it was but "oh so much more". When he traveled back to his favorite "fishing" place, a whole new set of challenges were presented by the many persons that he had met previously. Instead of spending time "finding himself", he was way too busy figuring out how to help his past friends & aquaintances with their intanglements. He really didn't have time to dwell on his own misfortune, but as it all worked out, he ended up finding his own happiness. The "friendly ghost" added a different twist to the whole story & you will just have to read it to figure that out. Go ahead; its worth your time.

I don't usually choose to read fiction, when a friend referred me to this book, I was skeptical, then I discovered I couldn't stop reading. This book sent me back to my youth to those days when I fell in love with mysteries, romance and justice, where idealism still ruled. To books that would twist my expectations back on themselves over and over. It has those delicious twists and yet, almost feels like it's more romance than mystery. I remembered why I loved fiction.

One of the striking things about the book, was how the protagonist was so "real", that I could relate easily. Where would you get a feel for the love of fly fishing somehow tied to a charged urban political environment and then a remote country setting with a bit of a western feel. Yet it all fits seamlessly and created interest in ways I'd never have expected.

But the real excitement in the book comes from the twists of the antagonist and from secondary characters, whom you can't say for sure are going to be good guys or bad guys. Let's just say, some of these characters shocked me as they showed their true selves, and left me saying, "of course, why didn't I see that coming".

The last shocker was one that I have to say, brought back a sensation I think we all need, that there is some higher power at least trying to guide and help us through daily life. The clever way this book introduces and maintains that sense, was something that left you feeling good even in the face of the heinous actions of the bad guys. How many books actually let you feel like justice is possible. This one does, and leaves you feeling really great! A book that does that, is worth it's weight in gold.

I found this story so difficult to get into, even after trying three different times. The characters did nothing for me and I felt the writing was too plain, flat, dry, take your pick.

I'm not one to leave a book unfinished and managed to make it nearly to 30% before deciding it wasn't worth my reading time.

Finally, although this didn't factor into my rating, the font on my Fire had to be set at 1 and even then the words were huge on the page. I counted eight lines of writing per page, so something was seriously wrong.

Read this one in one day. There were enough plot twists that kept me interested. Ben's and Mickey's interplay was interesting and kept me wanting to know Mickey's real purpose. It was interesting near the end we find out some of the back story of Mickey.
The there was one/two clear villains and two 'turncoats' that made me want to wring a couple of necks.
Another reason I enjoyed it is I've seen the area of MT that is talked about. While working at Yellowstone NP we ate in Dillon stayed at a motel on our weekend and had an enjoyable time in the area.
It is enjoyable to read about areas that one is familiar with. Thanks to the author.
