Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Crossdressing With Dignity, now in its second edition, continues where Dr. Peggy Rudd's first book, My Husband Wears My Clothes, ended. The crossdresser frequently experiences many feelings of guilt because of his/her love of the feminine or masculine. Am I gay? Do I want to become a woman or a man? These are many of the questions asked by the crossdresser as well as the significant people in his/her life. Is it possible to cross gender lines imposed by society and maintain a sense of dignity and self-worth. This book may provide answers to many of the questions and concerns of crossdressers. The end result should be a personal growth which leads to self-fulfillment and acceptance.

From the Author

As a helping professional and the wife of a man "who crosses gender lines", my goal in writing this book was to address the emotions that surface when men transcend gender lines. I believe this book will help crossdressers overcome the emotions of guilt, fear, denial, hostility, and loneliness. As crossdressers move forward to inner peace and a sense of personal dignity, they will realize richer and more complete lives.

Since this book represents the collective input from 852 crossdressers worldwide, a wide spectrum of ideas, theories and philosophies is presented. It would be impossible for any reader to accept such a diversity of opinions at face value. Each reader must approach the content of this book with an open mind and use it as a catalyst for introspection. It is my desire that reading this book will help crossdressers in the process of self-awareness and self-acceptance. For the non- crossdresser, there may be a heightened acceptance of the phenomenon of crossdressing. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

After reading Dr. Rudd's wonderful first book, My Husband Wears My Clothes, I was eager to read her second book, Crossdressing With Dignity. I was not disappointed. This book gave me the answers I was seeking about the fears and guilt feelings I had experienced most of my life when I admitted to myself and others that I was a crossdresser. After reading this book which describes over 800 crossdressers like me, I know I am not alone and I am an OK person. In fact I learned I may have found the best of both sides of my personality, the femininity I love and the masculinity that provides balance in my life. Thank you Dr. Rudd for writing this book!

This book represents the collective input from more than eight hundred crossdressers. The Case for Transcending Gender Lines paves the path for crossdressers as they enter a hostile world. Emotions such as fear and guilt are addressed in detail. Each chapter is a "stand alone" work, but each relates to the overall theme of the book, the development of an inner feeling of self-dignity. Dr. Rudd asserts that self-acceptance comes before all else and that without it self-dignity is impossible to achieve.
Negative feelings are addressed: denial, hostility, fear and guilt. Dealing with these is seen as a primary concern, for until they are addressed and replaced with positive feelings progress cannot be achieved. "Tools" to help the crossdresser break out of his self-imposed prison are presented with clarity. Relationships within the family are explored in detail, and a short dissertation on "How To Tell Your Wife" is included. Chapter Nine, on self-acceptance, is most thought provoking, ending with a thirteen step guide to reaching that level of self-acceptance so necessary for stability and growth. If you only choose one chapter to read, in my opinion this one must be it. Chapter Eleven, which is really the last chapter of the book for the average reader, ends with a beautiful poem which you can read here.
Chapter Twelve is basically for the statistically inclined. Here, in detail, are the charts and tables resultant from the over eight hundred replies to Dr. Judd's questionnaire.
Despite a few editing typos, this book is a good read, well worth the time. Take chapters one at a time and really think about them. I recommend this book to all crossdressers and their loved ones.

I am older and found experiences of others mentioned have followed mine. After life long depression, psychiatrists and 8 years therapy I have gone out shopping and to movies the last couple years a half dozen times. I want to do it more. It is so freeing for me to present in public as I see myself. This book describes much of what I've gone through and how I got to here. The book has given me more information about attitude and presentation. It tells much of what I was told by professionals. This has given me comfort knowing of others like me. Other books have been entertaining, but CrossDressing With Dignity is about the soul of us. Times are changing. It is a good book for all but I would especially recommend to younger people who feel closer to the opposite gender. My huge regret is that I didn't take professional's advice many years ago.
I used to think that others would think I was shopping for a man because of my dressing. My opinion is that most men think women dress for men. I have asked many women friends, sales clerks and doctors if they dressed for men or themselves. All have said they dress the way they do for themselves and sometimes say to satisfy their significant other, (in which there are benefits). The book describes why we need to dress for ourselves to be complete as individuals. Get this book if you need to crossdress, are family or a friend. Make the world better for all. This isn't a disease to combat.

I found this book to be very informative about the subject at hand. I have been seeking information about crossdressing and ways to inform the public that crossdressers are not sick perverted individuals as some might think. We are human just as much as any boby else. If folks would take the time to read this type of book maybe they would be able to understand that we mean no harm. We enjoy dressing as women and have a lot of fun doing so. In my way of thinking we should be able to get along as a community and not have the weird ideas that people have about crossdressers in general.I plan on purchasing more of the same type of book. It was a very good book and I really enjoyed it.
