Let me start by saying that I gave Branston Pickle 5 out of 5 stars because I couldn't choose 6 out of 5. You may think that this is pricey for a sandwich spread because it's more expensive than mustard. But that's like asking why a Ferrari costs more than a tricycle. You only think that because you don't know what sandwich spreads can be.

If you ate Branston Pickle by itself, say, with a spoon, late at night, in your underwear, standing in front of my refrigerator, it would be pleasant but a bit salty. When you apply it to a well constructed sandwich though the Branston Pickle and the sandwich become something else entirely. The sandwich, and perhaps you, are transported to a magical land where flavors aren't just born on your tongue but bloom in your mind. The vegetable morsels of the spread provide a satisfying crunch as you work through your divinely inspired sandwich. The saltiness completes the lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise triumvirate that lays across the top of your sandwich. A gateway to enlightenment opens in your being. Angels sing. Unicorns whinny. Munchkins sing for you to follow the yellow brick road to Branstonville.

Even though this item is for a stately 18 ounce jar you will find yourself aware of how easily it runs out. Once you eat a dose of Branston Pickle you will spend your days and nights dreaming of what other foods deserve its delicious blessing. You will happily try it on any and all foods available. That is good and just but be warned the jar is finite and every lovely sample puts you one bite closer to a home without Branston Pickle. Just know that here and now, with your cursor poised over the "Add to cart" button, you can delay the inevitable by first changing the quantity to 2. It will make your life that much better.

This is the best sandwich topping ever! I grew up eating Branston Pickle on my cheddar cheese and ham sandwiches, so it holds lots of good memories for me. It has a deliciously sweet and tangy taste - some say (e.g., my wife) it is an acquired one - and nice crunchiness from the pickled vegetables. I cannot say enough good things about it!

Since I discovered this wonderful relish in England a few years ago I have tried to buy replacements in this country. It is served at most pubs in the UK as part of a Ploughman's Lunch along with various cheeses and other goodies. It has a wonderful taste and texture, unlike anything in this country. I recommend every one buy some. I've found it only on Amazon.

As an American I didn't know quite what to expect, but I like to try different things so decided to give this a try. I'm hooked. It goes very nicely with chicken and beef. I've put it in canned beans and it really gave them a very nice kick.

Branston pickles are legendary in Britain, but not so familiar to Americans. I first experienced it by buying a jar from World Market. You normally think of pickles as being either sweet or dill, but Branston's is neither. More of a savory, smoky taste. Admittedly, it's something of an acquired taste. But if you give it a chance, you will acquire the taste.

When you open the jar, it's all kind of chopped up and very dark. Not really the kind of pickle you pull out of the jar and eat as-is, or put on your plate next to a burger or sandwich. But put it on a sandwich or burger, or mix it into a salad...it's an unexpected wonderfulness. I add it to grilled cheese sandwiches, potato or macaroni salad, or squish it into hamburger patties to go on the grill. Superb.

Give it a chance, and you'll become addicted. And thank whomever for Amazon, where you can buy it any time.

Branston pickle is not like anything else. It is not pickle relish but a multi-vegetable relish and, yes, it is supposed to be brown. Sweet, not in the least runny and has a bit of a kick. This goes really well with sharp chees and even hot dogs! Just wish it was less costly.

I've been watching Endeavour and Inspector Thursday's wife makes him a sandwich to take to work every day, wrapped in wax paper. He always seems especially pleased when it's cheese and pickle. So I had to try it.

Branston's pickle is actually a relish, a darker and tangier one than we put on hot dogs. On a cheese sandwich it truly is heavenly.

I learned to love Branston Pickle when I was working for Laker Skytrain in England many years ago. I am American but have become very fond of English food and traditions. Now I have my source for the future, thank you.
