Editorial Reviews

"There's no greater reading pleasure than to meet a new player in the field of Boston crime fiction. So allow me to introduce Matthew Fitzpatrick, and allow him to introduce you to his fictional gang of sharp-tongued, sardonic, hopeful, hopeless wise-guys and gals. His narration sings with the song of the streets, and their dialogue is so real it spits. A most promising debut. Enjoy." —William MartinNew York Times Bestselling author of Back Bay and Bound For Gold

Crosshairs is a gritty story about gritty people in a city where only the strong and strategic survive.” — Capt. Linda Greenlaw, best-selling author of The Hungry Ocean and Bimini Twist

From the Author

My dream to be a writer started around age eight. I was an only child at the time, and with no siblings, books became my friend and beloved companions. If everyone around me was quite busy, picking up a book would instantly render a connection to interesting people and wondrous places. I remember at a very young age reading Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary, but a short few years later I quickly moved on to Stephen King and Peter Straub.

The genre of my first novel I would describe as “Boston Grit.” I grew up in a very politically active and connected Irish-Catholic family. Many of the characters in my novel are reflective of people that I know or knew, and the scenes are quite anecdotal. To explore these people and ghosts after a divorce and well within mid-life is such an adventure. This is not a book that I could have written 15 years ago, for the memories and vapor trails would not be so poignant. As I steamed through adulthood, I found myself steeped in the American dream: I had a beautiful wife who had a very successful career, two angelic daughters whom I loved to take boating and float sea shells with. I am a US Coast Guard licensed sea captain, on top of having a very successful twenty-five-year career in the investment management industry. To most looking in, I had won the game, but what was missing was my lifelong ambition to be an author. I can tell my story with conviction as the scenes are such a part of my life. This is my dream….
