With Crossing Hearts, I was immediately drawn in by the story of love re-found. Hunter, the hometown sweetheart is the devoted farm boy who has always known who he loves and what he wants; Emerson, the girl he has loved since he set eyes upon her and to stay on the family farm in the small town they both grew up in. Mis-communication, fear of revealing family issues send Emerson turning down his proposal of marriage, leaving Hunter with a permanently broken heart as she runs as far away far from Cross Creek as she can get with the intention of never returning.. A diagnosis of MS sends her back home to finally face down her fears and an unexpected chance to mend her own broken heart.
I read this in one sitting, turning the pages slower and slower as I didn’t want to reach the end. I can’t wait to read the next in the series! I highly recommend adding this tale to your stack. Cross Creek is a keeper.
Hunter Cross decided to not continue on with his football career after High school and decided to stay working on his family farm so that their legacy continued you and he has never ever regretted that decision. Twelve years after graduation he finds him self getting an injury on the farm which sends him to the doctors in town which lands him face to face with his high school sweetheart who ran away from town right after graduation.
Emerson Montgomery comes home after twelve years with lots of secrets. As she is struggling to readjust to small town living she is being asked why she left her job as a physical therapist for a pro football. Emerson refuses to tell anyone the real reason she left that job. As Emerson is getting settled into her new physical therapist role in her home town she finds out that her first patient is her high school sweetheart. The more time she spends with Hunter, the more she wants to trust him with her secret that has the turned her world upside down.
Will revealing her secrets comes with a price? Can they rekindle their past love? Or will the realities of the present—and the trust that goes with them—burn that bridge for good?
Favorite Quote: "To not just want somebody, but ti want to be with them, even when things got bad. To not just look at somebody, but to see them way down deep, and know they saw me, too. I don't think I realized it until now, but what I've been waiting for is you. It's always been you. And this time, I'm not letting you slip away."
The author has a good way of making the reader feel the pull and push of the characters battle to get back together. Your heart breaks when Emerson tells Hunter why she left all those years ago. Give this one a try. I can’t wait for the next in the series. I listened to this on Audible.
