"I hate to categorize Territories as a straight paranormal romance, as there aspects of science fiction/fantasy, mystery, and thriller. Readers who like their genres mixed will enjoy Territories." - San Francisco Book Review

This book for me was a bit of a mixed bag. For the pros I liked the writing, the story-line was interesting and I like how it jumped straight into the plot. The beginning was fantastic and that immediately had me hooked. I also love this cover! The cons for me was the lack of anything from the title, to the book description that this was book one in a trilogy (I now know this because I saw it mentioned in the about the author description). As a reader I think I should have at least some of the facts which include what sort of situations this books contains and whether this is a series or standalone. This does not end neatly, instead in a cliffhanger. I personally prefer to have the next book waiting so I don’t lose the flow of the story or who the characters are. So beware the cliffhanger. Also there were many dumb heroine moments which left me feeling frustrated. Derrick was a bit of an unknown for me, he was mostly as a-hole the entire book to Emma and I can’t say I overly warmed to him. Also while there are many scenes of a sexual nature, there is only one sex scene and that to me felt like rape. The girl didn’t want it, she despised the man but because when she touches the stone she is overwhelmed with sexual desire (she is also forced into touching that stone, she doesn’t do that willingly given she knows the consequences) and she can’t stop herself from throwing herself at this man. It felt very icky to me and no matter how it was dressed up; to me that was a form of rape.
So while I appreciate the work and effort which went into this, plus I did like the writing (just the right amount of description without it being bogged down), I’m not sure if this is a series I will continue with. However there are currently many great reviews so if it looks good to you and my cons don’t matter to you then give it a try!
