Today, 03-31-2013, twenty years ago, Brandon Bruce Lee was killed on the set of this movie. He never saw his greatest work completed, just as his father never knew how well-received Enter the Dragon was, twenty years before that.
Even today, I mourn the loss of these great actos and martial arts masters.

Gentlemen, you have our Gratitude!
This movie is well made. While it cannot compete with the wu shu and wu xia of today, it is special in that it provides a look at Brandon Bruce Lee's early acting and martial arts skills.
Take time in this, the Year of the Great Serpent, Tai Shi, to learn how you can harmonize the energies that flow around you, unseen. Learn to use the forces of Chi and Jing in your life.
As I write this, I am reminded that today, March 31, 2013, is the 20th Anniversary of the Death of Brandon Bruce Lee, son of Bruce Lee. How fitting, that on this day, I am writing a review about The Crow!
Remember always, be like water.

Hseih Hsieh Ni!
The movie is dark and dingy and gritty. No place is colorful. No place is safe. The setting is a breeding ground for the worthless, the criminal, the downtrodden. Enter the Crow.
Lee brings the Crow to life in a way few people could have. He is sensitive and gentle, yet otherwordly and frighteningly deadly. Eric's suffering follows him, and you can see it. When he explodes into action, the only word appropriate is "impressive."
Though this film is not a cheery one, it handles grief and vengeance and love very well. You relate to the characters and fear for them in the face of these insane vilains that rule the city. Michael Wincott plays his part perfectly. So does Bai Ling. They are creepy and evil to the core.
Just a great exerience. About a love so powerful that the destruction of it produced enough pain to bring forth the ultimate spirit of vengeance.
See it once, at least. It still holds up even after all these years.
R.I.P. Brandon Lee
When I was 19 years old, I saw The Crow at the theater with my mother. It... Was... Epic! We both really liked it a lot and I became a fan for life. I was deeply saddened that Brandon had died due to an accident with the prop guns, he was such a wonderful actor and a really nice guy. But this movie was probably his best work, and the irony of the story and how he died was not lost on a lot of fans. Among the Goth set, it became a cult classic pretty much as soon as it hit the theaters and I purchased a VHS copy of the movie as soon as it was released. I now own it on DVD and on Bluray as well, it is that good. The sequels were mediocre at best and tried too hard to live up to the original, failing to varying degrees. If you are a Brandon Lee fan, you must get this movie. If you are a James O'Barr fan, you must get this movie. If you are a Goth personality, you must get this movie. If you love a good dark thriller and revenge movie, you must get this movie. The acting is well done and the post work for the four scenes that had to be cut together after Brandon's death were well done for their time. This is 1994 we're talking about, and while CGI and special effects have come a long way in the last 18 years, this was still very well put together for its time and very much well worth an attentive viewing at the very least. As dark as it was, there was still some humor that was cleverly scattered throughout the movie which kept it from being too dark, yet even the humor was dark, which was very fitting and nicely executed in the script.
About the DVD:
Disk 1 has an audio commentary track by Producer Jeff Most and Screenwriter John Shirley. The Special features on disk 2 are pretty cool. I loved the Behind the Scenes Featurette with interviews of James O'Barr, Brandon Lee, Ernie Hudson, and others gave good insight not only of the movie but of the characters from the actors point of view and the story from an inside point of view. The Profile of James O'Barr gives a lot of first person insight into his life and how The Crow and Eric Draven came to be. The three extended scenes are fun to watch, but of the three (The Arcade Bombing, The Funboy Fight, and The Shoot-Out at Top Dollar's), I think the Arcade Bombing should have been kept as it was rather than being cut, while cutting the other two down actually benefited them. There are some pretty cool bits in the Deleted Scenes Montage, and some of the Original Poster Concepts were pretty cool too. The Production Design Stills and Storyboards look like they came straight out of the graphic novels, so those were fun to see as well.
About the Bluray:
The Special features on this are the same as on the DVD release except that the audio commentary is done with Director Alex Proyas and the Theatrical Trailer is included, all of it on disk 1. Disk 2 features a digital copy of the movie. And like with any Bluray, the video and audio quality is better than on DVD.
