Editorial Reviews

International Emmy Award Winner for Best Comedy! Here are all 4 Seasons for nearly 10 hours of hilarity plus numerous extras and behind-the-scenes footage. "Kick Arse Comedy!" -Aubry D'Arminio, Entertainment Weekly; "Brash new Britcom...surreally raucous time" -The Los Angeles Times. The short story is that in a dark and shabby basement, the Reynholm Industries IT Support Team - bitter slacker Roy (Chris O'Dowd), socially inept Moss (Richard Ayoade), and their new boss, computer illiterate Jen (Katherine Parkinson) - rule their own domain of professional irresponsibility, mega-nerd ecstasy, and random acts of personal insanity. 24 Episodes. Also includes: Set Tour, hidden extras, a guide to sitcom writing, interview with Graham Linehan, various outtakes, audio commentary by Graham Linehan, deleted scenes, several featurettes, English sub-titles, and more! This is the UK's highly acclaimed comedy and current IFC hit by Writer/Director Graham Linehan and Ash Atalla, the Producer of The Office.

Don't get me wrong this show is absolutely amazing and one of my favorites of all time. So for the show it is easily a 5 star rating but this complete series product to me is ridiculous because of the price. you play $90+ and yet you get nothing extra for the money. you can buy all four seasons right now individually and pay only $57. As far as i can tell there is no exclusive bonus features to buying the show as a "collection." Once again to re-iterate this show is an amazing show and is deserving of 5 stars but this specific "collection" in my eyes is a waste of money since it is nearly twice as expensive as buying individual seasons and therefore gets a two star rating.

This is by far one of my favorite shows - quite possibly my number one. The writing is genius, the characters are a perfect fit with each other, and the cast pulls it off brilliantly. I have seen all 4 seasons at least 6 or 7 times now, but I couldn't pass up the deal on Amazon to buy the set. My household just finished yet another IT Crowd marathon yesterday and it's still as funny as the first time we saw it!! And I have yet to find anyone who doesn't love it - friends who never watch TV, family who swear British comedy makes no sense, people who don't know anything about computers, nerds, or geek culture... it doesn't matter. It's just an entertaining show.

And to make this review even longer (and to show how much of a nerd I am), we went dressed as the main characters of IT Crowd to a convention earlier this year. We were recognized on the street before we even made it to the convention center and in one of the sessions, two middle school-age children in front of us recognized us. Now that's good parenting!

If you've never seen the show, watch it! If you have, there is really no reason for you to be reading reviews, is there? Stop questioning, just buy it. And as far as Amazon is concerned, they have great service, REALLY fast shipping, and I've never had an issue.

I won't cover the plot of The IT Crowd (IT as in Information Technology) as there are plenty of other reviews that describe them perfectly on Amazon. However, for anyone considering buying this without knowing a single thing about the show, I'll say that it could make you look like a genius to your NERDY friends. The show covers modern problems and (mostly) ridiculous situations which tend to be rude, as only the British can pull off. Some of the characters are over the top, but they all are charming nonetheless.

The IT Crowd passes both of my 'tests' for whether or not I buy a DVD for a movie or TV show. My first test is, 'Is it still entertaining after several viewings?'. After watching every episode of The IT Crowd via streaming, from all four seasons **multiple times**, I still jumped at the chance to get them on DVD (from a reseller on Amazon). After popping in the DVDs I still found myself laughing out loud at times.

My second test is extra content. There isn't a lot, but considering that each season contains only 6 episodes, it's just the right amount. The details packed into the DVD menus are intricate and charming. Most of the menus are shown as old school video games or something PC-related which play in the background featuring the show characters. And there's a '1337' subtitle option (Leet Speak) on disc 1, which programmers will appreciate on an entirely different level.

For years I've thought no sitcom episode could ever make me laugh nearly as hard as Meltdown from the legendary Red Dwarf. Then a friend introduced me to The IT Crowd. She sat me and my husband down with a couple episodes... just weeks later I ordered the entire series.

From the opening credits based on early eighties computer graphics (anyone else out there remember when a Commodore 64 was serious high tech?) to the perfect cast (Cris O'Dowd as the slovenly, resentful Roy; Richard Ayoade as the glorious ur-nerd Moss, and Katherine Parkinson as the manic tech-ignoramus Jen who runs the IT department) to the belly-busting scripts by Graham Linehan (Father Ted, Black Books) there isn't a single misstep. True, some episodes are not quite as funny as others... but some flavors of ice cream aren't my absolute favorites, either. They're still ice cream, and they're still good.

Whether skewering workplace soaps (Lots of sexy people not doing much work and having affairs), bemoaning the lack of computer savvy of people who make their livings using them (Have you tried turning it off and on again? Is it plugged in?), playing with gender roles, poking gently - or not so gently - at accepted social rituals, or watching the smoker's area turn into Gorky Park, this show hits it mark with accuracy that never feels just mean.

Meltdown has now been joined by episodes like The Speech and The Work Outing for sheer comic genius. I am delighted to find so much hilarity in another Britcom.

Look, just get the series. You'll never regret it. And you may never laugh so hard again.
