I use SSD drives in the high end ones and I own about 12 different SSD drives. My monster machine that I use all the time had a 480 GIG drive in it and I wanted more space so I picked up a 960 GIG SSD by SanDisk. This drive does not come with any mounting hardware meaning screws, brackets for a 2.5 inch drive, SATA cable or a power cable but since I was replacing an existing SSD I had everything I needed. I used an external docking station using an USB cable and I downloaded the 480 GIG drive backup from my server and loaded it onto the new 960 GIG drive. I then swapped the drives and installed the new one in my slot for the primary drive. When I booted my computer it immediately recognized the new drive as the C Drive and it told me that I had to restart Windows 10 for the changes to take effect. You should note that Windows changed the drive letter to C. Unless you need the old drive you took out right away I always keep it as long as possible as a backup of my working operating system. If something should happen you now have a recovery disk to get back into operation and you may have to install a few updates but you don't lose everything including possibly the OEM license to your operating system. If you don't need the drive and have room in your tower computer (If that is where you installed this new one) I sometimes leave the old drive in place and make sure that the wires are run to it but not connected so it does not wear out. (Especially if it is a standard mechanical drive) Now you know where it is and if the primary drive fails then remove the PC computer's power and unplug the failed drive and plug in the archived one and you are back in business. So far I am happy with the new drive as it is as fast as my old SSD and I didn't lose any performance but I picked up an additional 480 GIG of storage space and a little more breathing room on the boot drive. I ran benchmarking speed tests on the drive and they were very good. I had write speeds of up to 464.823MB/s and read speeds of up to 530.242 MB/s. Great Speed, unfortunately, I had to return two

My Lenovo T420S requires a 7mm drive.

This fits the bill, but after two drives, I'm going to have to give it one star.

I bought two versions of the drive. One as a kit with a USB 2.0 drive and Apricorn's cloning software. I ran it under Windows 7 and it was a breeze. It was only later that I realized there was an (unbundled/kit) version that had a usb 3.0 adapter.

Transfer and upgrade was a cinch. I did have a couple problems putting the drive in the 7mm slot. Something wasn't lining up right, and I only had this problem with the Crucial drive, not my original HD.

Speed was good, and I got used to it in the two days that I was working with it. Boot time was excellent.

One day, I went to turn on the machine, and I got an error that my system couldn't boot. After several attempts, including removing battery and power, it still wouldn't boot. The bios wouldn't recognize it. I had already done the firmware upgrades to bring it up to 010G, because I had heard of issues with previous firmware versions.

I removed the drive and used both the Apricorn cable, and other sata cables to try and read it, and it just would not be recognized as anything. I tried the same sata cables and used other sata hdd and they were recognized.

I returned it via Amazon, and ordered the same drive, but this time, separately, with a USB 3.0 kit this time.

Same sequence: installed, usb3.0 transfer went much faster, installed the system.

But having read some of the forums, I realized that the power had drained on my laptop, right before the problem. So I ran down the laptop to empty the battery. Then I encountered the same problem.
Went through the same process of testing other hdds, trying the SSD on a usb connector and other computers. Still, completely bricked.

Then, I read where one user "charged" it or let it sit under sata power for about 30 minutes, and it came back to life.

I did the same, and mine eventually came back.

But I'm too nervous to have that happen again, and I'm very wary if this will be the case with all SSD's. I also don't like the idea of having to remove the drive from your laptop, find another working system to "charge" your SSD back to life again. I'm going to try a different manufacturer

Incredible performance boost and improved battery life

I have always trusted Crucial memory and that was a major influence on my choice to go with a Crucial SSD. Second factor was the M4 has a 6Gb/s interface. The boot speed and overall performance of my laptop is remarkable. Having no moving parts makes for a super quiet experience. Plus I don't have to worry about picking up my machine and moving it while its running since there is no spinning hard drive platter to disturb.

While I have not yet tried fully running down the battery with the SSD, based on the estimated battery runtime I have gained about 25%. I used to see 4 hours with a fully charged battery and a 7200rpm hard drive. Now I see 5+ hours estimated with the SSD when the machine starts up unplugged. And I am sure I can spend time tweaking the power settings to squeeze more life on a charge but I don't normally run for long stretches on battery. But now I supposed I could!

The Windows "Experience Index" that has a max score of 7.9 in each category now shows 7.9 for my primary hard disk transfer rate. I guess this is a good as it gets as far as Microsoft is concerned.

Is an SSD worth the cost: YES. Absolutely.

Great drive, incredible speed

I have this particular SSD (256 GB) installed in three different Dell Latitude laptops that are fairly new. The 7mm size is important because the thicker SSD drives do not fit in the newer Latitudes. These do.

They are extremely fast and improve battery life on the laptops when compared to standard laptop hard drives. Both I and the two other laptop users are very impressed with the speed.

We have used about 75 to 100 Crucial m4 SSD's in various applications (Laptops, servers, gaming PC's, etc.). Every one of them has performed flawlessly and are still going strong. Every one of them is extremely fast.

There seems to have been issues in the past regarding firmware (I have not experienced any), but for the past few months all of the Crucial m4 SSD's we have ordered have come with the latest firmware.

I highly recommend these drives. They are probably a little more expensive than other brands, but they are worth it.

Incredible performance, decent manufacturer support

Going from a non ssd to this, I feel like I bought a brand new MacBook. It was expensive but the performance now is incredible. I highly recommend the upgrade.

I have noticed loss of battery life though but I can't say for sure it is the ssd. The instructions said to update to the lates OS update 10.7.2 so I also did that at the same time and now battery life is fairly significantly diminished. I can't pinpoint whether it is the ssd or the OS update that caused it.

My macbook pro used to go 3 days lid closed on standby and still have 80% or more battery life. Now 24 to 36 hours of standby lid closed drains the battery.

I am open to suggestions, I have tried everything. Changed settings like trim enabler, power preferences, removed anything I think is running in the background etc. as usual apple Genius Bar is of no help for anything that requires more than fixing iPhoto thumbnails.

Easy to install, very lightweight, affordable. If your hard drive has failed on your laptop, consider replacing it with this drive, especially if you don't store much as 64GB is plenty. I'm satisfied with this purchase. If this changes, I'll certainly be back here to amend this review!
