1. With original drive still installed run Acronis True Image 2015 and create an Acronis USB Bootable Rescue Media.
2. Open laptop, discharge static, then remove existing sdd or hdd from device.
3. Discharge static then install new SSD.
4. Start computer and boot from Acronis USB.
5. Plug original drive into USB->SATA adapter and run the Acronis Drive Cloning Tool. The tool works on automatic, but made a 350gb recovery partition taking up the majority of the disc.
6. Once cloning is finished, load Windows and install Crucial Storage Executive and enable Momentum Cache on new ssd.
7. Go to Windows 10 Disk Management, right click the useless recovery partition, and either delete or shrink it. I deleted it since I'll be keeping my original ssd as a backup, and can use that for recovery.
8. In Disk Management right click the Windows partition, C:, and expand your windows partition to maximum size.
That's it! Don't know why this isn't detailed by Crucial as I had to piece together the steps from different sources, but if you follow these instructions you should have a working upgraded drive!
The old drives were 500mb Seagates - so it should be pretty obvious there is a massive improvement to the operation of this old G73JH. These 2TB drives are SATA 3 (6mb/sec) My old Asus G73JH is SATA 2. Most SATA 3 drives are backwards compatible to SATA 1.5 - but not always. Has to do with the bus controller - so you might want to make sure your laptop will support the SATA 3 drives if it has a SATA 2 bus. The Crucial USA website does have a nice utility which will scan your computer and tell you what - if any - upgrades your computer can take. I used this tool to verify the 2 TB drive would work.
Overall - great drive to use, easy install, good speed improvement and no issues at all. 2TB at a reasonable price is awesome. In about a year you should be able to purchase 10TB SSD's, but for now this will work just fine for me.
This Crucial on the other hand works great with Macrium Relfect for cloning (I also recommend getting the full/paid version of Macrium for backups etc).
