To ensure that you get a reliable memory upgrade, Crucial tests every module at the component and module level to make certain that it meets our exacting specifications. If it doesn’t meet or exceed the performance levels that Crucial advertises, then it doesn’t leave our doors. With a product portfolio that includes thousands of upgrades for more than 50,000 systems, Crucial has one specifically designed for you.
- Selection – comprehensive product portfolio includes modules for over 50,000 systems and includes everything from energy-efficient DDR3 modules to legacy DDR modules in a range of densities

- Reliability – backed by over 30 years of DRAM industry experience
- Compatibility – OEM-compatible with the latest PC systems*
*While Crucial memory is OEM-compatible, you’ll want to check your system’s specifications to ensure that the memory you’re ordering works with your system in terms of technology (i.e. DDR, DDR2, DDR3), speed, and module density.

"Free" : If your "Free" memory is low (or 0!) you probably need more memory.
"Page Outs" : If the "Page Outs" is high, this means that your computer is using hard disk rather than RAM for memory functions and produces a severe loss in speed.
"Swap Used" : This gives a rough estimate of how much hard disk is used for RAM. This will give you a rough idea of how much RAM you should add. i.e. if this is 4 GB, then you should add at least 4 GB.
You should check these numbers while doing the types of activities you normally use your computer for. Not just at idle with nothing running!
As far as this item goes, Crucial is a known Apple-friendly RAM and is unlikely to give you any issues. It is also a high quality manufacturer and is much more reliable than some cheaper brands. Remember, RAM is dirt cheap these days so don't save a few $$ to buy inferior quality RAM! You should just not buy any if you are going to buy a terrible brand.
For people with a Macbook Pro, install is quite easy. You can find many manuals on the internet (I prefer iFixit). Don't be intimidated buy installing it. You can save a lot of money by doing it yourself. If you feel uncomfortable, then by all means have someone qualified to do it for you.

Results: 4Gb to 8Gb RAM upgrade did not improve boot time but greatly improved speed of opening multiple applications. However, the addition of RAM+SDD was a game changer. Amazing performance improvement in boot time, shutdown time and all operations.
MBPro Comparison Stats:
Before (4Gb memory):
Boot Time to login screen - 0:57
Time to Mail login window - 2:22
After (8Gb Memory, HDD):
Shutdown - 0:33
Boot Time to login screen - 1:00
Time to Mail login window - 2:20
After (8Gb Memory, SSD):
Shutdown - 0:16
Boot Time to login screen - 0:16
Time to Mail login window - 0:30
As an added bonus, I learned that my old 4Gb 2010 iMac had two empty memory slots. I installed the 2 old 2Gb SIMMs from my MBPro into my 2010 iMac. Both machines are now upgraded to 8Gb RAM with the purchase of only one 8Gb upgrade kit.
Price paid: < $80 for 8gb Ram & $120 for 240GB SSD.Read more ›
Installation was fast and easy after watching some videos on YouTube.
Wish I had done this sooner.
FYI: Despite Apple's claims, 8GB of RAM WILL work in the late 2008 unibody aluminum macbook, according to several reputable articles I've seen. (Just in case 4GB isn't enough for you)
Here are a few notes. Some reviews said they had problems with Mac Mini; I did not. The main things I would suggest are: take care to hold the cards by the edges and do not touch the chips or circuits; make sure the cards are inserted all the way -- the gold edging will completely or almost completely disappear when inserted and then show a little more when the cards are pressed down to lock; be sure to lock the cards down flat before closing the computer.
The Mini is running quite a bit faster now in launching programs, and my next upgrade will be to put OSX Mavericks on it. I'd be happy to get these chips again and will update in the (unlikely) case there's anything more to say. Cheers!
