Purchased for 2010 MAC MINI and they work perfectly! My mini only had 2GB and was sluggish running media files, with the new memory installed there is no noticeable lag. I went to the crucial website and loaded the web tool and found my options I had to choose from as always as a prime member I could not find a better deal so I order the kit. It arrived ahead of schedule delivery and was well packaged. I promptly inserted the new modules and was up in running in minutes! I would purchase again.

I ordered this RAM package for my late 2008 15" 2.53GHz MacBook Pro running OS X 10.7 Lion. Apple claims the maximum supported memory for this system is 4GB. However, on December 8, 2009, Apple released an EFI firmware update which quietly allowed affected systems to be able to address 8GB of RAM. "Other World Computing" reported this discovery in March 2011. I decided to give it a go and sure enough, my system is running perfectly without any problems (make sure your Boot ROM version is MBP51.007E.B05 for this specific system). I ran a full memory test and not only are all 8GB available, but I haven't experienced a single kernel panic or crash. I'm thrilled with the results. Now I can edit raw files in Aperture without sluggish performance.

Still working flawlessly on OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion. I've never had a single hiccup or even the slightest indication of trouble. I even took it into an Apple Store for an unrelated (battery) diagnosis, and when they hooked it up, all the systems (including a test of the RAM) came back with a green checkmark (which means it's working to Apple's approved factory specifications).

One of the best upgrades I've made to my Mac, aside from an SSD upgrade. Awesome!

Adding more RAM to a MacBook Pro is one of the simplest and most cost effective ways to increase the capability of the system. And at these prices, an 8GB upgrade is quite cheap to do so. By upgrading from 4GB to 8GB, you can see a noteworthy decrease in load times for programs and files, especially when you already have a number of applications open or are working within multiple browser tabs. You'll probably notice a good reduction in slowdowns and the presence of the spinning color wheel, both of which largely happen when apps have to wait for the system to manage memory and prepare it to load the necessary items, instead of being immediately ready to do so.

Keeping this simple, here are the basics first, followed by the details.

Details:

I purchased this Crucial CT2CP51264BC1067 8GB 204-PIN PC3-8500 SODIMM DDR3 (4GBx2) kit here in anticipation of the OS X Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8), the ninth and next major release of OS X. According to Apple, to upgrade to OS X 10.8 to, a MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) must have a minimum of 2GB of RAM, 8GB of available storage space, and be running at least OS X 10.6.8. I could meet or exceed all of those criteria, so this upgrade made a lot of sense. My MacBook Pro is a 13-inch 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (MC374LL/A) and this kit was the one that was suggested when I visited the Crucial site to confirm the part number.

I chose the Crucial product from past experience over the years with PC installations, and knowing that they're a division of Micron Technology, have had faith in their products, as they haven't failed me yet. The price is quite reasonable and you're getting the right product by ordering here from Amazon or from Crucial.com directly.

Installation:

This was the first time I've done a memory upgrade on a MacBook Pro, though I've done it on older Macs, PCs and PC notebooks over the years. This turned out to be one of the easiest, but be prepared: you'll need a good quality Phillips #00 (P00) screwdriver like this E-Flite Screwdriver, #00 Phillips to remove the case bottom. Shut down your MacBook Pro, but be aware that the internal components can be hot, so wait about ten minutes after shutting down to let the internal components cool. Disconnect the power adapter and any other cables, then turn the MacBook Pro over, and using that Phillips #00 screwdriver, remove the ten (10) screws that hold the bottom case. The screws are different lengths, so note the lengths and locations so you can replace them correctly. Lift off the case base and place it to the side, then (and this is important) touch a metal surface inside the computer to discharge any static electricity from your body.

You'll need to remove the existing memory, and those who have done this before on computers will find it simple on the MacBook Pro. For those who haven't, always remember to hold the memory modules by their edges, and don't touch the gold connectors. Push the levers on the sides of the memory module in an outward direction to release it from the memory card slot, and the memory will pop up at an angle. Before removing it, make sure you find the half-circle notches. Hold the memory module by its notches and remove it from the memory card slot, then remove the other memory module.

Installing the memory modules is pretty much the reverse. Align the notch on the gold edge of the module with the notch in the lower memory slot, then tilt the card and push the memory into the slot. Use even pressure (just two fingers) to push down on the memory module, and there will be a click when you insert the memory correctly. Then repeat to install the additional memory module in the top slot, and press down on the module to make sure it is level. Just be sure that the gold contacts are inserted almost completely into the connector.

Next you'll replace the bottom case. Make sure that you put the different length screws in their proper locations, and then carefully tighten those ten screws you removed earlier. After that, you can plug the cables back in and power up your MacBook Pro. If you did everything properly, all should boot up smoothly. You can verify the new RAM installation from the Apple menu by choosing choose About This Mac, The small window will appear and will show your OS X version number, along with the amount of memory installed. Mine shows "8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3" and if all was done correctly, yours should be similar.

In Use:

This is probably the most cost effective upgrade for a MacBook Pro that anyone could do. It's easy to install and runs much faster now, I've encountered no problems at all. Right now I'm running 27 open browser tabs and am writing this in Word for Mac 2011, with two more documents open. There's a large instance of Outlook running as well, along with Google Drive, accessing documents and images on the Cloud. The difference between the original 4GB and the 8GB upgrade is quite noticeable.

Summary:

This is a well-priced upgrade, very cost effective, easy to install and one that I feel most users will find quite worthwhile. Crucial has a good reputation for offering a high quality product over the years, and I've always had first-rate experiences with their RAM over time. Ordering this kit here on Amazon just made good sense to me, and am now looking forward to installing OS X Mountain Lion.

But this is about the MacBook Pro and getting more performance from it, and that's exactly what happens. Everything will run faster with 8GB RAM than with the original 4GB, and maybe because the computer isn't working as hard, it does seem to be running cooler even though I'm using it in a Speck Products See Thru Satin Case for protection in the field. Applications run faster, and Internet browsing speeds are noticeably faster. If you own a MacBook Pro, this is a highly recommended upgrade, easily worth a 5-star recommendation. It's a great upgrade for the money, very cost effective, and with it you can say good-bye spinning wheel!

I have worked with computers since the early '80s. RAM upgrade is an inexpensive upgrade to most OEM computers. Several brands are just fine, but the last few years, HP has offered Crucial as their preferred brand. I went from 4 Gb to 16 Gb of DDR3 1600 in my HP laptop, and from 8 Gb to 32 Gb (also 1600) in my HP desktop, both Windows 8.1. Price is middle, not low, not high. I have had no problems at all with Crucial. So when I got a refurbished Toshiba laptop (Windows 7), though it originally came with 3 Gb, and this refurb had 4 Gb, I wanted to upgrade to the maximum 16. The Toshi is limited (like most laptops) to two sticks of RAM, so I'd need two 8 Gb sticks. Expensive, too much so for a cheap, carry around laptop with an old OS. So decided to only get 8 Gb, which is two 4 Gb sticks. Checked the online specs for the computer (not much there as this is 3 to 4 years old), and found that unlike my newer computers, this would not run 1600 speed RAM. Nor 1300 RAM. It would only handle 1066. There still is some available out there, but had to dig a bit to find it, and Amazon (as it often does) came through. Made sure I got laptop version, and the CL was correct or at least within the original RAM stick's specs, and ordered these. Went in with minimal trouble (this laptop has one stick under a plate in the base, one under the keyboard.....odd, and not "easy", but I figured it out), was immediately recognized, and has performed with no issues ever since. No miraculous changes, but apps load faster, it boots faster, and I can run up to 14 windows at a time. So I have no complaints.

Excellent upgrade to my Macbook Pro (mid 2010), it doesnt cough with so many programs, i can use adobe software(photoshop, ilustrator), plus itunes, firefox at the same time with no problem, I'm also running Mac OS "el Capitan"performing all good. I used to have 4gb and this days is impossible to have less than 8. i Highly recommend this if you don't want to buy a new computer but give more lifetime to an older one.
