Wow, just wow, this book was amazing and totally stepped up from book 1. A truly action packed read full of excitement and anticipation. I was captivated completely from the very beginning and seriously couldn't put this one down. Kayci is learning to deal with her new powers whilst some deceitful people around her are desperate to bring her down, she needs to learn who to trust and fast. Along with this she also has her true love Adrian ....then there's Cass, can Kayci keep her lust in check whilst surviving the battle against the enemies ? Such an amazing second book in this series, I loved this story so much. I have to say this book has that perfect balance of blood and gore, chemistry and intrigue. There's so much going on, I could literally feel the tension and turmoil throughout. I'm secretly rooting for Cass, I'd love to see his dominant side !! Can't wait for the next book in this series, Betty Shreffler I need it now ! ~Corrine - Minxes Reviews

Where Embrace The Dawning was more of a setup to meeting the characters and getting Kayci ready for who she was and what she was about to become, this book was full of action and so much turmoil. We really got to see Kayci take on a lot in this book and step into who she was meant to be. I loved seeing the direction she wanted to take The Covenant, and the new characters we met in this book, but I hated the heartache we had to deal with in this book, and seeing Kayci torn between Cass and Adrian and the temptation she dealt with throughout this entire book.
Watching Kayci deal with so much in this book really stressed me out, and it stressed her out as well. We got to see her push her limits and realize that maybe she can't do everything on her own. That even though she may be the leader, she has people around her to help her, and to work with her to see her vision of the new Covenant and to set things right. We see that people aren't always what they seem, and you can't always trust who you think you can.
I really enjoyed where this book took us in the series, and even though my heart was torn into two many times I can't wait to dive into the third and final book to see what happens next for Kayci and the rest of the Covenant. I have become attached to these characters and I can't wait to see what is in store next, especially with how this book ended. If you're looking for a series full of witches, werewolves, and vampires that will keep you on the edge of your seat, I highly suggest picking up The Covenant Series by Betty Shreffler today, this is a unique and edgy paranormal romance!
Cruel Temptation begins with Kayci trying to take the Covenant to the next level by inviting the werewolves and witches to join. This is a brave move because there are many unknowns with all three groups in the same room. As everyone arrives and starts talking in walks the next in line Lycan leader and his sexy brother, Cass. Kayci works hard to fight her attraction to Cass because she is in love with Adrian.
It's on the trip to see leader of the Lycan clan that she is forced to explore her feelings for Cass and Adrian. While she is in Colorado she learns that she has opposition from many sides, and she goes from a high to a low. It is here that she starts to learn about herself as a leader and will shape her growth.
I couldn't put this book down. Betty Shreffler has a way of writing that is very visual for me. I loved the introduction of the new characters even though I'm team Adrian. Adrian is the protector that we know him to be. Elise is the awesome best friend that helps Kayci keep her humanity. And Rosemary adds the mother figure that Kayci needs in guiding her as a leader.
In book two, again, the action doesn't stop when you think it does. Book three is set up perfectly and I can't wait to see how Kayci is going to deal with everything in her personal life and in her leadership role.
I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
As a way to make the new Covenant stronger Kayci and the others decide that they need to enlist the help of not only more vampires, but witches and werewolves as well. In order to do this they call a meeting where Kayci is brought face to face with the first werewolves she's ever met.
While in love with Adrian, Casey finds herself extremely attracted to one of the werewolf brothers. This attraction is so intense that it starts to make her feel crazy because she doesn't understand what's going on.
Book two was a very fast read for me because there was so much going on I couldn't stop reading and I absolutely had to know what was going to happen next. My heart broke for Casey with the losses that she suffered and also the dilemma her heart was in between Adrian and Cass. With enemies all around her, it seemed as though she was never safe and either herself or someone she cared about was in harm's way. I really loved the new characters that we got to meet in this book and my heart was definitely torn between both Adrian and Cass knowing how much each one of them cared so much about her.- By Alisa
