Cruel and Unusual: Four short stories of judicial horror Kindle Edition
Cruel and Unusual: Four Short Stories of Judicial Horror by Erik Dean features four horror short stories that will take readers' breath away. You'll read them and won't want to part with them.
From the Back Cover
From the ghostly old west to familial retribution, this collection of short stories explores how even deserved punishments can be taken too far. Part horror and part philosophy, each story postulates a consequence that will invite readers to question the meaning of the law.
For the criminal in "The Devil Made Me Do It," it's time to pay up. Coworkers and friends can't pretend that they are surprised, and even Lucifer himself isn't willing to take the blame.
In"Witch Tryals (1692)," women found guilty of witchcraft are marched to their deaths, but with powerful and unanticipated forces at work, perhaps the executions won't go exactly as planned.
If the punishment is capital, does that always make it cruel? Perhaps even the most malicious criminals don't quite deserve what they get, but justice must be served.

The book runs at 264 pages which might be a little long for some. However, if you’re a fan of the horror genre or want a book that will make you think, this is one option to definitely consider reading.
What I really like about this particular collection is that the settings are so different from one another. I wasn’t expecting to get both wild west and colonial witch stories in.
Coming from New England, I love any and everything involving the Salem witch trials. I read many different renditions or tales inspired by the events -and I was delighted by the original tone the author created.
Despite the vast differentiation between each individual story, the author’s voice was rather consistent. This is a good thing, as he perfectly illustrated settings and offered very enjoyable, relatable characters. I wasn’t able to put this book down and was very happy to see that there was a second installment.
If you enjoy any scary stories involving supernatural elements, this is the book for you! I would not recommend this book to the feint of heart.
