I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to do well on Step, and use it together with FA to do well. I would never tell someone to not read FA. It is the bible of step, but Crush is very well written and will be a good addition to your core curriculum/ STEP 1 studying.
It's lack in immunology however, and I haven't finished it so there may be other deficiencies. Also, there are quite a few errors such as a backwards urea cycle - be sure to check the errata online. This is the first edition of the book so I expect future editions will be better. Do use it alongside one or two other resources so you'll catch these errors (I'm doing it interspersed with UWorld, since I don't have the attention span to do long stretches of either one)
I find this book helpful in clarifying details of facts that are listed in first aid. The book is well written, in a narrative style, and is easy to understand. It has clever mnemonics to help you memorize information just like first aid. The embryology chapter of this book is fantastic. You can find errata for the book on Facebook. Highly recommend
Obviously First Aid has "everything" you need to know but for me the cluster of random words tossed together were not enough, especially for subjects that I am weak in. For example, the neurology chapter in First Aid is a nightmare to go through without prior knowledge and my neuroscience/neuropath courses at my school (US allopathic) were subpar at best. After reading the neurology chapter, I'm getting more than 90% of neuro questions correct in Uworld.
I think to use this book best you should follow along with your classes, but I'm finding it to be extremely helpful right now studying for boards. I really wish I had this book sooner.
