Shannon Braden wants Steve, but he seems to reject her at every turn, but when she comes back from her trip to Peaceful Harbor, Steve seems different, especially when he licks pink frosting off her finger. But when Steve's walls finally crumble, the passion explodes between them, their loves blooms father than either of them realize.
But when it's time for Shannon to leave, will they be content with a long distance relationship or will it fizzle out as fast as it started.
STOP THE PRESS!! This book is my official favorite Melissa Foster book ever!!...well at least until the next one is released! Let's put it this way! I love it so much I bought it in paperback! This book is pure love! The story of these almost long distance lovers reminded me of how I "dated" my husband while I was back home in the UK and he was here.
When it came to the characters; I absolutely loved Steve aka "Grizz", because he fully lived up to that name. I loved the was he resisted Shannon in the beginning, but realized, soon after she was back that he couldn't live without her and that he was willing to risk his heart for her. I think Shannon is one of the sweetest heroines that the author has ever written. I loved her nervous chatter and her determination to bring Steve into the age of technology is so funny!
When it comes to the writing and plot, it's everything I have come to expect from Melissa Foster! Smoothly written, without plot holes and the plot is divine and you feel like you are right there!
I give Crushing on Love 5 stars!
"'You don't have to be alike to fall in love. Love is about discovering underlying truths. It's about caring enough about someone to put yourself last and wanting to be with them at their ugliest times as well as their most beautiful.'"
Shannon Braden lives in the coastal town of Peaceful Harbor, Maryland and heads to a small mountain village in Colorado to finish her study of foxes. She has family nearby so she's recently been to the area where she met mountain man Steve Johnson and the two were instantly attracted to each other. Now that she's returned to Colorado for three weeks, she can't seem to keep her eyes and hands off Steve. Steve loves Shannon's spunky personality and the way she gets excited over nearly everything from pink frosting to learning to build a fire. As their relationship blossoms, they make shmores together and buy Happy Packs to eat in the park (you'll have to read the book to find out what these are!). They told each other they would only be together for the three weeks and then go back to their own lives but can they do that?
"'Roots run deep, darlin', and they don't come unearthed because of a little distance.'"
I always love Melissa Foster's books and really enjoyed this one! Since this one is about a resident of Peaceful Harbor, I was expecting a little bit more of the coastal setting but instead, nearly all of the book takes place in the mountains of Colorado. This was perfectly okay with me and just shows that Melissa Foster is keeping me on my toes! Melissa Foster has never disappointed me and I always look forward to reading her books. You don't have to read the books in order since they can all be read as standalones but I still try to read them in order so the events that happen with characters aren't spoiled by reading a later book (that's just my personal preference). If you are looking for a new author or book to read and don't mind some steamy romance scenes, I recommend Melissa Foster's books because they always satisfy my desire for a beautiful love story!
Steve is thrown for a loop when Shannon bursts into his quiet little world. She is spunky, sassy and, oh so sexy. His nickname for her is Butterfly as she flits from thing to thing and from place to place. Shannon is drawn to Steve’s burly mountain man exterior and also to his tender heart underneath it all. Can “Grizzly” and “Butterfly” find a way to compromise between their obvious opposite lifestyles? You will have to read the book to find out!
There is a great balance in this book between times of angst and times of sexy fun. The characters are well-developed and you will find yourself laughing at times (watch for Happy Packs and Shmores!) I enjoyed this book and maybe it is true that opposites attract?
I know this is going to sound cliche, but this is my favorite book that Melissa Foster has ever written. What I love most about it is the simplicity. It's simply the story of a free-spirited, outgoing girl from Maryland who falls in love with a somewhat reclusive mountain man from Colorado. Yes, there's a subplot about them trying to raise money for a ranch, but their romance revolves around the subplot, rather than the other way around. It's just a small part of the epic love story that is Steve and Shannon.
Like all Braden books, this can be read as a standalone. However, other Bradens from previous books make a few cameo appearances.
