Love this album! I recently discovered Melanie Martinez and I am so in love with her music style! It's not what I expected based on her looks, but it's even better! She sounds so awesome on vinyl, too. Definitely worth the buy. The record came with a neat illustrated booklet and a code for a free digital download. I have noticed that one of the songs has a skip in it, but maybe I just need to clean the record more thoroughly as it might be caused from dust particles from the packaging. Other than that though, this vinyl is perfection!

I don't usually bother to write reviews for music, but this album hooked me from the first song and I can't stop listening! The lyrics are dark and fun and the music is playful, but lends itself well to the themes of the songs. Every track is just as catchy and creative as the one before it. The last time I was this impressed with an album I stumbled upon was Evanescence's "Fallen." I can't recommend this album enough.

One of the best albums I've heard in a long time. My favorites are "Tag, You're It" and "Mrs. Potato Head."

KEEP DOING WHATEVER YOU'RE DOING.
This album was fantastic the first listen, the second listen, I focused on lyrics which are even better, twisted, dark and amazing.

Made the mistake of falling asleep to this album and have had nightmares every night but that's stress induced hahaha.

Oh my god this is incredible and I'm so happy it exists and I love it. Did you know she's like 20!!!!

Dam* Melanie.
Probably going to name my first born Melanie.

"Tag, you're it"
Is about sexual assault which I learned from an article about the cry baby illustrated insert, and I have been assaulted like that, and most of the time I'm like no I don't want to hear anything about it but I never skip "tag, you're it" ... It's f***ed but it's shedding light on it and I feel for Melanie I hope to God it's fictional because that tears you up I didn't stop crying for two years.
"I can taste your skin in my teeth"

Oh God this album is bigger and better than gold it rips my soul out and I really like it.

Received the physical album today, you can download it by purchase on your phone so I'm putting it on repeat.

This is incredible

Melanie Martinez is one-of-a-kind. She can be compared to Marina & the Diamonds, but what she does is her own. That shines through on her full-length debut.
She isn't really happy on the album. On "Dollhouse," she tells the tale of a family (Cry Baby's) torn apart by addiction and infidelity. On "Mrs. Potato Head," she tears apart society's beauty stereotypes ("little girls are learning to... pucker up their lips until they suffocate"). And on "Pity Party" (the highlight for me), she samples Leslie Gore's breakout hit and sings about a birthday party for herself at which she is the only guest.
The instruments aren't the highlight (most of the songs are stripped-down instrument-wise, possible exceptions being percussion and sound samples) - it's her voice and lyrics. And with this much talent, there's no need to "cry."
P.S. This album is about "Cry Baby," a character first seen in her "Dollhouse" video. Melanie isn't as grim as Cry Baby, so don't get upset when she sounds like she's on the verge of tears.
P.P.S. The packaging on this album is EXCELLENT! When you open up the cardboard case, there's a bunch of pages telling Cry Baby's story, with one page per song (example - for "Pity Party," they tell how she threw a party and invited her crush but no one came). The pictures are cutesy-style drawings, but if you hate cute, you won't be disappointed.
P.P.P.S. Listen to "Dollhouse" & "Soap." If you like them, this album will DEFINITELY worth the money for you!

I ordinarily do not buy music, but I can certainly say every song off her album is good and it is worth the money. I truly do want to support this artist not because of her looks or her image, but because her music is that good.

I was blown away by her Voice performances and loved her releases like Toxic and Bittersweet Tragedy. I realised from the word go that this was an artist to look out for. Hence this debut album was greatly anticipated. Then when it came out and I saw the cover, I felt a bit disappointed by the very poppy, over produced sound and couldn't help feeling a little irritated by the whole baby theme. I was missing the more accoustic sound I fell in love with at first. However having said that - after a good listen and getting over my initial expectations I realised all the tracks are incredibly catchy to say the least. Plus there is a dark, sinister, very adult and intelligent message lurking behind the child facade that makes this album quite remarkable. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.
