I wanted a journey that shows how she was able to deal with her grief and find forgiveness for herself, and maybe even her husband. (he was not there for her at all) What it seemed to be was she left her home, not to fix herself, but to push her husband into changing. Yes, he was hurting, and yes his mistakes aren't uncommon...but they were minimized to make it easier for her to deal. She didn't really deal with his mistakes at all. Maybe the author didn't intend that, but I felt as if I were "reading" and not a part of their story. I also figured out the sort of twist when the author first started hinting at it, and I think it's a cop out. It got quite weird towards the end considering that there wasn't a significant amount of time that they were separated.
I wanted real growth, instead I received real surface, and no true resolution.
A Cry For Hope is one of those book that I loved with all my heart and hated at the same time because it tore every last emotion from me.
We have Hope who is struggling with her son’s death while her husband is moving farther and farther away from her. I can’t imagine the heartbreak, though Beth did an amazing job reaching through the pages and wrenching those tears from me.
Nick, Jamie, Nick, Jamie… who was I supposed to be hoping for here? I loved Nick, yet he was so broken too. I was angry with Jamie for a good part of the story. We’d get these beautiful moments in the past and then we’d get the present where he wasn’t Prince Charming any more.
I can’t go into more detail without spoiling the book for everyone, but man..I’ll say it again, this was a heartbreaking, emotion wrecking, tears inducing kind of read. Though there is a companion novel out now, this is a standalone and you have the whole story right there in front of you.
Amazing book, it was the kind that left me pondering it for days after, questioning life, comparing how I would react compared to the characters in the book. Five stars. Absolutely Beautiful!
I had a stomachache from the first chapter, and it didn’t subside until the epilogue. A Cry for Hope is about a couple who’s lost their child to a horrible drowning accident and who have to take time away from each other to figure out whether or not they’re going to stay together.
This book was written so well that all the assumptions I’d made by the third chapter had been proven wrong before I got to the ending. Nothing about this book was predictable, and I think that’s one of the biggest reasons I was caught so off guard with some of the twists.
This was a different book than I’m used to reading from Rinyu. Although her style is still the same, this subject matter was really heavy (though to be honest, I haven’t read some of her earlier stuff, which I’ve heard is just as intense). Up until now, my favorite of hers was An Unplanned Lesson, but that’s changed after reading A Cry for Hope!
The flashback chapters were brilliantly done, with each memory of her past directly correlating to the present chapters in between. I was never bored, and I was never confused. It was truly a story that will stay in my mind and heart forever. You can’t read a story like this and expect it to not stick with you. These characters are too wonderful for that.
I knew this was going to be a difficult one to read, so I put off reading it until I knew my heart could handle it. I read a few romantic comedies before diving into this one to prepare myself for the days of sadness. And although the majority of this book was heart-wrenching, I can’t help but love the message: You have to fight for your happiness, for the ones that you love, and for your future, because you can’t change the past. You can only live for the present.
I'm looking forward to A Will to Change!
