I'm in love with it! The story was so original, and it was nothing like I've read before. It was a fresh fantasy story with awesome characters and an amazing plotline!
Mita, God, I fell in love with him, HARD. He was a perfect ruler for Tartan <3 He and Crystal are perfect together, it's like they complete each other. Like they were mean to be. Crystal is truly a heroine, she went to a unknown planet, with unknown people and she didn't run away. She wasn't easily scared, she was a warrior at heart, and a queen at soul. Thomas didn't have a choice in it, he fell in love with her, and so did she.
And what about Jason and Ana? They were such a good couple, and so good with their daughter! They were also an importan part of Crysalis. Their relationship is so interesting because they are so much alike, but they fit perfect together.
I loved how I could know what everyone was thinking while I was reading the story. It was good having the different versions of each character.
And let's talk about PLOTTWISTS. I never saw anything that happened on the story, coming. Never could I have ever imagined what was next. The book has secret from the very beggining but they will be revealed as you turn the pages. Until you finish it. and then BOOM!
I can't wait to find out what happens next! On the new planet!!!!!
Long life to King Thomas and his Queen Crystal!
However, this is about the only good thing about this book that I could find.
I'm sorry to say I couldn't make it through the third chapter. I realize that this is a debut novel...but generally when one writes, they generally have a concept of grammar and punctuation before they release their book into the world.
I have never seen so many errors in a book before. There's commas in places there should be periods, random page breaks where there shouldn't be, gaps in between the paragraphs and indents all over the map.
Her characters of Cameron and Morion have been misspelled so far a handful of times, and misspelling "Morion" as "MORON" is very distracting.
I can tell someone TRIED editing this--the strikethroughs and underlines at the errors ARE STILL HERE.
And so far, in three chapters I have NO idea what's going on. It seems to be a post-apocalyptic, dystopian world...where somehow another planet is aligned with Earth and now they're warring. Over...a woman? Am I reading this correctly? It's so full of information dumping and no action I'm beyond confused.
Life is too short for bad books. If this was on KU, I'd have returned it by now. Since I purchased for $.99, I'll fume about it for awhile and move on. Anymore than that and I'd demand my money back.
This book is in DIRE need of a copy and line edit and a content dump. Oh, and it needs to be formatted--badly. Until this happens...sadly the problems are too great to continue. Sorry to the author...but this book needs a lot of work and probably shouldn't have been released.
Truly, the best thing about this book is the cover. She got this part right, at least.
So it's been forever since I have had to write a review and I'm letting it be known now that I will be honest and there will be no fancy review because I have not figured out how to do that yet and I don't think I need it. Warning this is a review that is full of Spoilers. Now enough talking on to the actual review.
I love, love the story/premise of this book I think the author Tracy Millosovich is on the road to becoming a great author but as is the saying Every great journey begins with the first step and I think Crystal Dreams is this authors first step and from what I read of the ARC this novel needs work not a lot of it but enough. This book from what I read in the ARC had touched a couple of my book pet peeves as a reader and because of that I have to rate this book a 2.5 or 3 Stars.
1. In consciences in the Story.
There were so many instances that the flow of the story was broken by the amount of In consciences that arose for example characters like Jason were introduced with one personality type only to appear again with a completely different attitude or another character type for no reason or at least a reason that was not immediately explained. Or back to the Jason example the author had written him a potential love interest in the beginning chapters of the novel in the form of the doctor/healer that saw to King Thomas after the human assault of the palace. Then Jason shows up with a another healer/doctor a few chapters and it's not explained why this change happened or how. Things of this nature made it very hard to get through reading the novel.
2. The Pacing of the Story.
The pacing of the story was very poor almost everything that happened in this novel went from 0 to 100 with little to no in between and very little detail and explanation on what was happening. To put it simply things just suddenly happened there was no real build up.
3. Very little Details
I touched on this point in my two earlier points not a lot of how or whys in this story. An example would be why does Crystal Rose suddenly become the slain queen when the chapter before that states that she is a possible reincarnation of the slain queen but now she IS the queen herself not her own person with traits and powers of the queen but a carbon copy which ruined the whole previous set up and the premise of the story to me. No real description on what manner of aliens or magical creatures was on this planet and how they were different from humans or why humans are the evil monster or what caused the individuals in the beginning to be the worst people ever no real background on that or the history between them and the royal family, for instance. Now on to my last point.
4. One-Dimensional Heroine and Other Characters
Last but, certainly not least the characters themselves. I have touched on at least one of them earlier so I'm not really going to rehash that too much but, I will say that. I have had very high hopes for Crystal Rose herself but due to aforementioned issues with this novel, I hate having to say those hopes died quickly. She is a Mary - Sue ish character in the beginning and then gets very little development and once I get a feel for her character and explain away the irrationality of her behavior when stuff begins to happen, myself as the reader gets blindsided by the fact that she is not really her own character but a carbon copy of a alien queen that she be dead. I had a real what the crap moment there sorry.
In closing given that this was an ARC, when or if I read the finish product and the final product this review is subject to change. Please do not take this review to heart and discount this entire book completely , I really think that this author has a lot of potential and should be given a chance and the final product should be read before any final judgement should be cast and this is my opinion which you can take or leave at your leisure. Thank you.
