Because of some nasty minerals in our local water, stuff sometimes comes out of the laundry smelling like rotten eggs. We experimented with some different laundry detergents to no avail, and finally decided to add Purex Crystals in with our usual brand and see what happened.
Well, Purex Crystals did the trick, and our clothes now smell fresh and clean! (I sometimes have to throw in a bit of baking soda as well, on the days when our water is particularly nasty, but the crystals work well enough by themselves most of the time.)
The only thing that bugs me about them is that they clump up on the clothes unless you dissolve them in the water first...hence the four stars. Still...not bad!
This product makes my laundry smell so good and the nice thing is, it lasts for quite awhile on the clothes. I like it because it's not overpowering but has a clean, lasting scent that I like. I especially like to use it with my towel load, since I don't use fabric softener on this load.
This is by far the best value for a laundry booster. I have 4 boys whose clothes can get pretty stinky. I use this to make sure they come out smelling fresh and clean. The fragrance isn't too overpowering and it lasts a very long time. Delivery was timely and just fine and the price was great. Just placed another order.
I've been buying these for about a year, but just recently found them on Amazon at a price that beats any local prices except BOGO sales -- which are few and far between. When I have laundered items for other folks, I always get a rave about the fragrance of the laundry.
I stopped using liquid fabric softeners or sheets in favor of dumping all my laundry in combined loads with cold water. I use "free and clear" detergent that does not do much for making my clothes smell good after washing (just not smelling bad!). Purex Crystals give my laundry a pleasant scent, and I have had no problems using it with my wicking athletic articles or wrinkle-free items. That's why I like it. It also dissolves very quickly, and I feel like having a bit of scent added to some salt I through in my wash is probably healthier than some of the crazy-exotic, unpronounceable stuff I assume is in generic fabric softeners. I think it is highly likely that adding the salt from this product to the water keeps colors from bleeding as much as they would otherwise. No permanent wet-looking marks like fabric softener can cause, and I can just toss it in the machine. I would rate higher if I could purchase at a comparable price on its own, without needing to make it an add-on, or subscription item, or if there was an official stance on this product making clothes "softer" or not... I like the scent- just call it a scent enhancer, instead of implying it may/may not soften too! People add "salt" to the water in their home water, so maybe it softens- I'm not sure, which makes it frustrating that it is a product feature that is alluded to. I recommend to anyone who does all mixed-loads of laundry and wants a nice smell to their cleaned clothes, without worrying about messing up wrinkle-frees, wicking fabrics, or the chance wet-looking stain.
Just a capful of this stuff and my clothes smell divine for weeks! The whole family like it because the detergent we use doesn't have much scent to it at all. It also helps keep my front loading washing machine from smelling funky.
