The protagonist, Sam, is a relatable, down-to-earth character dealing with the problems that everyone who has ever worked in customer service has had to deal with: shitty customers unable to read simple instructions, bullshit management watching your every move waiting to write you up, and insane chaos mages looking to usher in the Apocalypse.
Tightly packed action scenes, a hilarious look at the reality of serving customers and tension that ratchets higher and higher the more it all unfolds. Sam is a heroine in a uniform worthy of your respect and the money she makes repeating simple directions to customers who should be able to pay for their parking without her.
How does it end? No spoilers here. All I will say is: this book is for you if you love Lovecraft, Shaun of the Dead, urban fantasy that doesn’t take itself too seriously, or anything that blends comedy and horror into a fantastic finished product!
Whatever the challenge, she tries to get the job done right.
This was a fun read that had me giggling a little too loudly after a rough couple of work days myself.
I am excited to read the next book!
While it has a horror component to it, I wasnt too cringe-worthy for the more timid reader, and the action has a humerous edge to it. Actualy what I found more horrifying was the main characters day job and how awful the charcters working conditions were. But it was realistic. And a bit sad.
For anyone who has worked in the public sector there are many things in this story that one would find amusing. The drone of a day to day job and the people we encounter. We've all experienced that person who blames us for their inability to follow the rules, and yells at us in the face of thier own inadequacies. It add a realistic and refreshing humor to this read.
This book is also a fast read that gets right down to the nitty gritty of the story.
Overall it was a fun read, with many unique little twists and realistic truths.
I recieved a free copy of this book for my fair and impartial review.
As the title suggests, Cthulhu's Car Park is a tale of horrible creatures from another dimension wreaking havoc on a parking structure. And the plucky parking lot attendant who seems to be the Earth's only hope for salvation is an unlikely hero you'll totally root for.
Whether she's being screamed at by irate customers or stalked by creepy dudes, Sam just can't seem to catch a break. But that doesn't stop her from trying.
The action sequences are tightly-paced and gross but not horrifying -- think reading the screenplay of Evil Dead. But it's the sardonic tone that really made this for me. A quick read that will make you chuckle but also look under the bed before you go to sleep. The illustrations bump up the creepiness factor and really round out this comedic horror tale.
I requested and was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of this novella for review. I can't wait to be able to buy the rest of the series!
