    Do not suggest letting children use it as plates get VERY hot. Also suggest not following instructions that tell you to put ball of dough 2 inches from edge to flatten it. This never worked for me , always ending up with a hole or uneven tortilla. Put it directly in the center...

    I use this at least twice a week and it fell apart the first month. I cried when my old Cucina died, I had it for 12 years and it just died on me. i got this new one and its all plastic and it shattered from every day use. i hate it. its half the weight of the old one and it doesnt press evenly. the temp never stays where i put it. if im paying this much for a tortilla press then it needs to be fully metal.     It took a couple trys to get the tortillas to turn out the way I wanted them, but once I got the hang of it, it worked great.
    What I learned is that once I flattened the dough, then I needed to let go of the handle. If I kept the pressure on, the tortilla would tear. Also, the handle is plastic, so I don't press down really hard anyway as I am concerned it will break. There are plastic tabs on the lid you can press down harder on if needed and they work fine. I also chilled the dough for 30 minutes before making the tortilla which seemed to help.
    It cleans up nice.

    It is a very substantial appliance and it works as it is supposed to work. I use it for tortillas. The handle is not going to break or bend and the plates are exactly flat and come together with no space in between. It has 1000 watts, so it does not dawdle in heating up. I wish I could choose a 3.5 star rating. And I suppose if the appliance was engineered to allow less human interference and human error, I would give it four stars. But there is a LOT of opportunity for human intervention and a lot of iffiness and variables to deal with. Making acceptable tortillas is not a given with this appliance--any more than doing it by hand.

    It has some shortcomings:
    --A safety concern: The instructions say to cool the appliance in the open position. Well, the plates are large and they get very hot. I wish there was a safer way to cool it down, without leaving it open. I'm afraid to walk away from the appliance when it is hot and open, for fear someone will touch it by accident. Our cats are enthralled by tortilla-making (maybe the smell?) and I can see them hopping up onto the hot open face.
    --The cord is very short: I understand the need for a short cord, but 24" is really restrictive. It is shorter than you would picture it, so check your distance before purchasing.
    --The manual and small section of recipes is not very helpful. In fact, it contradicts itself in places. Plus all the instructions are for small 6" tortillas. What's with that? This appliance can produce almost 10" tortillas. This is not the easiest appliance to master, so very detailed and exact directions would have been appropriate. There are some tips (where I noticed the contradictions), but they are confusing and left me with more questions that I had to begin with.

    I must say (although I know Amazon does not like you to mention other reviews in your own review) I am very appreciative of the advice from some of the other reviewers. Without all that extra input I'd be having a tougher time trying to make decent tortillas. But I must also say: As difficult as this appliance is to master, it still beats rolling tortillas by hand! But. if you approach this appliance thinking you are going to make perfect tortillas right off the bat, you will be disappointed. Getting the results you expect will take a good amount of trial and error and a lot of practice. If you lack patience, you should probably stick with store-bought.

    I will add a video when I get time to produce one. This Maker can create better than store-bought tortillas for a fraction of the cost but you have to put in the time to learn how to use it. You put your dough on the griddle and then squeeze the handle down for about 1/2 to 1 second. That's it! Then let the tortilla cook for around 2 minutes with the lid UP, flip, flip, and your tortilla should puff up. Lay the lid onto the puffed up tortilla to finish cooking.
    There are YouTube videos that show how to do this correctly. You don't just crank the heat up and then hold down the handle while your tortilla cries in pain. That will lead to a mediocre, dried out tortilla.
    The handle does feel a little flimsy but it hasn't broken for me yet. If it does eventually break I will just repair it with something else, I'm not sending this back.

    This tortilla press worked AWESOME for 3 months. But then, with no changes to the recipe, every tortilla started sticking badly. Very disappointed. Customer service was horrible. After a few attempts to talk to Cucina on their horrible staticky phone lines, they did offer to replace it if we sent it back. However we're not confident that the new one would last longer than 3 months and not willing to risk the shipment charges.

    Still works as a tortilla press using plastic ziplock bags to prevent sticking. We then cook the tortillas in a skillet on the stove.

    This item is great. I make the dough and put 2-3 inch dough balls the start pressing. I slowly turn them ninety degrees with a periodic flips. Too much pressure and small explosion ensues. A tortilla is ready and piping hot in roughly one minute. The tortilla maker works as advertised. No need for rolling pin. Seriously!
