I must admit, it does make the process of making your own baby food much easier and quicker, The first few times I had used it I loved it. But soon after, I begin to wonder what was going on in that "steam chamber" that you can never open and clean.
For those of you who has seen the thing will understand what I'm saying, it's wet, it's steamy, it's closed: it is a perfect environment for the mold to grow.
Also, I realised that while you grind the food after you steam it, a little bit of food goes back into the chamber- making it even more grosser.
The manual says to descale it once a month, I felt unsure about the hygiene of the chamber so I did it once every twice week.
Also, every time I finished using it, I rinsed it out thoroughly and let the lid open overnight for it to dry completely.
Still, when I descale it, such gross stuff would come out endlessly- finally I stopped using it.
I see on the reviews here also, people complaining about this mold situation, I'm very curious whether Cuisinart is aware of this problem, and what they are planning to do about this.
I have no intention at all of using this appliance in the future, and I'm planning to write an email about this to Cuisinart.
For those of you who are planning to make your baby food yourself, trust me, a pot and a blender is all you need, it's not that much differnet from this baby food maker and it's so much more cleaner.
Attached photos are the "gunks" that came out from the chamber after descaling.
I took this Cuisinart baby food maker apart and the heating coil looked disgusting. Check out my pictures.
I only got 5 months of use out of this product. So much for using it for more than one child!
Cuisinart would not replace it and did not seem to care that their product had contaminated my baby's food.
