Don't be scared off by the reviews stating that it's noise or that they were unable to make ice cream with it. These people clearly can't follow a recipe and don't understand that a motor and gears is going to make a little noise. It's about as loud as a mid-level dishwasher and considering you only need to run it for about 20 minutes to make ice cream, it's not a big deal.
The inner bin needs to be frozen for this to work, but that saves a lot on ice and rock salt like more traditional machines require. However, it does not freeze the ice cream hard. I find that I need to let it run for 25 minutes, then scrape out the ice cream and stick it in a container in the freezer for at least five hours to get hard ice cream that will actually be good with cones. Otherwise, the right-out-of-the-machine ice cream is more suitable for a shake consistency, even after 25 minutes
I do like this and my kids beg for homemade now, which I feel much better about feeding them than store-bought processed garbage. I like that I can plug this in and walk away, and that it's easy to clean. And it makes enough for six modest servings.
a healthier version. It produces soft serve in about 25 minutes and we purchased quart containers for freezer storage. I promptly wash the freezer bowl and pop it back in the freezer so it's ready when we get the urge to make more. The only complaint I have
is that it is rather noisy but I assume most ice cream machines are. I just use it during the day when I am not concerned about noise or put it in the laundry room and shut the door!
